Hi ladies,
It is mostly gone. My ILs arrived Thursday night and that was the first night since that it did not take hours to put her down. She does still pull off and fuss. When she does that sometimes she just wants to sit up for a second and go back. Other times I have to hold her upright and try again. And/or switch boobs. But it has gotten much easier! This is her second nursing strike and def the longest one yet, almost 2 weeks!

@pastemoo: I'm convinced she's teething too even though I see no white. But long before you see white things are moving around underneath the gums that can also cause a lot of discomfort. Hope it passes soon for you!

@irene: Thank you for the encouragement! I really do love nursing even though it takes up so much of my day. But it allows me to slow down and just stare at her. Can't get these moments back if they pass. I think that's what gets me going despite the frustrations!

@regberadaisy: Gabriel was doing this the past week. He will eat fine at night and scream during all day feedings--but he was 4 months to now (4 months + 1 week).
I don't have bottles so he basically hasn't been eating during the day.

Everyone swears he is teething (he even has funny scrapes on his cheeks from trying so hard to force his hands into his mouth and some fingers don't make it in. He gets about 7-8 fingers in....

Anyway. Is it getting better? I don't have answers but I do have the same question!

@regberadaisy: How are you doing now? I hope it has passed already... no?

my LO also started his nursing strike around the 4-5 month mark. I think yours is teething. And it is a strike and it will pass (if it hasn't passed already) in 1-4 days, sometimes in a week or two.

There is bad news and good news: Bad news is nursing strike may return when she has more teeth coming in...etc. And you will end up being like me, scratching my head wondering if I should wean and give him formula. But good news is, you will eventually not take it personally. I used to cry too thinking he doesn't want me anymore, and I'd be all shakened and can't calm down to deal with it. Now I just calmly get a bottle, calm him down while give him a bottle... then I pump afterwards.

My LO just turned 8 months and he started a new round of nursing strike. Tonight he sucked and pulled off, sucked and pulled off, then burst out crying. This is the 3rd strange night this week (usually it is 99.9% success rate to feed him before bedtime). He was so upset at one point he won't even take a bottle. Everytime it happens I wonder if it is for good.... we'll see for this one...

Best best wishes for you and LO .... hang in there and don't take it personally is what I can advise...

I hope everything has been working out for you now. My DD is 3 months and she is showing signs of a a strike as well. I am anxious before every feed and cry when she pulls off screaming. It is very frustrating. Im very tempted to pump and give her a bottle throughout the day and nurse during the night when she seems to feed a lot better. I dont mean to hijack your thread but Im at my wits end with this!!

@regberadaisy: I hope it's just a strike for you! My LO did the same thing around that time. She's about to be 8 months and she won't nurse, except at night, but since we cut out the night feedings, that means she doesn't nurse at all. :-( Strangely though, after her last nap yesterday, she actually wanted to nurse, but only in a sitting up position. So maybe you can try that?

@regberadaisy: It sounds like a strike to me. Liv would latch on and then pop off and SCREAM and push me away. It killed me. I cried because I thought she didnt want me anymore. But I kept at it, tried different positions, and would leave my boob hanging out randomly in the house while we played in case she wandered by (at the 6 month strike) and decided she wanted it. Try the bath, and just keep offering it up. Its probably a combination of strike and 4 month sleep regression. A lot happens around that time that throws everything off =o)

@LivsMama: thank you! I was so afraid that she is self weaning and would no longer nurse now. I also wondered if it's because *I* started giving her a bottle at bedtime before nursing. She's been waking up SO much at night lately we thought maybe she wasn't getting enough from the boob before falling asleep.

oh and also, a sudden strike is not self weaning. Weaning happens gradually and slowly. A sudden stop like this is definitely a strike, so keep at it, but dont try to FORCE the boob

Liv went through this at 4 and 6 months. Both lasted 4 to 5 days or so. The first time, I got into the tub with her and laid her on me and she took back to it. That didnt work the second time. The only thing that worked was to keep offering and eventually she took it back. Until she would take it though, it was bottles. She wouldnt even nurse during the night. I feel ya. Its hard, but it does end. =o)

M has been on a nursing strike for the past 3 days. Sigh. She is 1 week shy of 5 months. Anyone else's LO go through a strike around this time?
I don't know what it is?! She'll nurse fine in the middle of the night. But would nurse for a 1 minute during the day then pull off screaming. But then she'll take a bottle.

And I don't know if it's because of that but she has not been going to sleep till like 9:30/10:00 last 3 nights as well when her usual bed time is no later than 6:30.

It's always at the 9:30ish mark is when she'll nurse again then fall asleep. Probably because she is so completely over tired.

Help!
