G is still eating every 2 hours as well! She goes through 20oz of BM/formula at her 10 hours of daycare! She's still only 59% in weight (96% in height though :p) so I definitely don't mind her chunkin up a bit! She (usually) STTN, so I figure she just gets all her cals during the day!

I wouldn't worry about ky baby being too chunky unless my pediatrician brought it up. Lots of babies are chunky, and many also get leaner once they start crawling anyway.

My LO (12w old) eats frequently during the day too. I feel we are on a really weird feeding schedule. She'll eat when she gets up from a nap and then 1.5 hours later before she has her next nap. I feel like I'm feeding her all the time. However, she'll sleep at least 8 hours straight at night so I don't want to mess with it!

Hi night time stretch sounds similar to K's. She's 8 months and I still feed every 2-3 hours. Sometimes even less than 2 hrs if I try to nurse her to nap. I've always subscribed to the "nursing is not just for eating."

Sounds normal to me... my 5.5 month old is unpredictable but mostly eats every 2 hours... every hour first thing in the morning and in the evening, and sometimes longer stretches midday. She also STTN. It's not ideal, but the STTN is!

But yeah, I think it's normal. C slept a long overnight stretch too and liked to eat every 2 hours through the day.

Yeah, Miss A still feeds roughly every two hours during the day at almost thirteen months! Babies are designed to frequently feed, it keeps them close to the comfort and safety of mum :-)

Ugh, I can't even with people who call babies fat. Babies chunk up partially because they are hard wired to slim down as toddlers, when they're too busy/picky to eat! And yeah, sounds like your LO is simply making up for the long stretches at night.

My 7.5 month will nurse every two hours if we are home. And he is finally going longer at night. I think if they are hungry feed them. They aren't going to over eat.

It really bothers me when people comment on his frequency of eating.

I think that's normal especially if you're getting a good night stretch. My 9 month old eats every two hours when we're home. (She'll go longer if we're out) and she sleeps through the night and has since about 3 months. I'd much rather feed more often in the day than be up at night!

I would trade night feedings for more consistent day feedings if I could! I do notice, though, that when we're out of the house, he gets distracted and often nurses less frequently. Maybe you could try for more outings or distractions?

ETA: I find comments like your mom's hurtful- you can't overfeed a baby of that age by following their cues! If anything, I'd guess a lot of obesity stems from people not being in touch with their hunger cues!

My 9.5 mo still eats every two hours PLUS gets three meals of solids. I feel like all I do is feed her.

Please don't listen to your mom. That's ridiculous - and really hurtful. I wouldn't change a thing unless my ped recommended doing so.

No advice either since my son was the same. I agree with @hilsy85: he's probably tanking up during the day to give you those long nights (my DS was not so kind as to do this). I would maybe just watch out for comfort nursing. I don't think I was aware enough with DS and I probably could have at least shortened the nursing sessions to 10-15 minutes instead of half an hour of boob each time.

Thanks ladies! I really don't want to compromise our night sleep so I'll stick with what has been working. He is a chunky little thing and I was just concerned with any risks of childhood obesity (although I  his chunkiness!). My mom keeps making comments that he eats too much/is too fat.

Don't worry about how far he is "supposed" to be spacing feeds if he's healthy and it generally works for you. Mine ate every 2-3 hours until 6 months, including at night. Every baby is different.

That said you could try stretching it out by 15 min increments and see if she eats more at every feeding if she's more hungry, if the every two hour thing isn't working for you.

He's going a really long stretch at night so I would guess he's tanking up during the day--I wouldn't want to risk stretching him during the day and him waking more at night. If he's hungry I would feed him--I would definitely pay more attention what he needs than what he's "supposed" to need! Those books will drive you crazy :)

My almost 5-month-old still eats about every two hours during the day. From what I understand, he should only be eating every 3-4 hours. How do I stretch out his feedings? He usually starts crying to eat right at the 2 hour mark.

At night, he has his last feeding around 8 pm and goes until 4-6 am before his next feeding. Although, he occasionally will have one MOTN wake up.

Is this normal? Or do I need to start spacing?
