Yup LO gets whiney and started around 5 months. Now that he's closer to 6 he sometimes pairs it with a screech that is both funny and annoying. He usually does it when a toy is out of reach or he is stuck.

@meredithNYC: My son wasn't like this at all so I think part of it is just her personality. And I also just think that some babies are just more socially aware at an earlier age. When my someone took away my son's toy (at 6 months), he didn't react much to it because I don't think he understood what was going on. But with my daughter...oh hellz no. She'll yell at you and start screeching like a teradactyl. lol. I do notice that boys tend to be a little later than girl in developing social awareness. So it could also be a little bit of a gender thing too?

@banana: My LO is a year on Sunday and she's the same way, though she started a little later. I keep thinking it seems way too early for that kind of thing, but she's my first, so I don't really have any experience with this sort of thing.

My LO started whining around 4 months I think? He does it especially when he's tired...and now he's started screaming when we take toys away from him! I find that distracting him helps.

My DD is 10 months and whines/tantrums! She started at around 5 or 6 months. She'd get mad if her brother would take away her toy. Or if she couldn't reach something. Right now I think it's funny and cute but I know I'll have my hands full once she becomes a toddler!

My DS has suddenly started whining a lot. I think he seems to do it when he is bored or wants something he can't have/isn't in reach. Sometimes I can't figure out what he wants. I almost wish he was either happy or full on crying because then I would actually know what was going on! Is this whining normal? A phase? Should I just get used to it?
