@BananaPancakes: We have one of each, the Graco and the Britax. I will say that if I didn't know which was which, I'd choose the Graco as the one with more plush padding.

But the Britax wins for me, because of the Click Tight technology. It is worth the peace of mind for seat belt installs.

@BananaPancakes: it's actually really cushy and padded! We road trip a lot to visit my family so comfort is definitely key. I'm less concerned about cushion for the seats going into my ILs car. ;)
I can try to get some better pictures tomorrow for you.

@BananaPancakes: my son endured a 2 week road trip (40+ driving hours) in his nautilis, and we have done lots of shorter trips too. no complaints. I wish it reclined more for sleeping purposes but I don't really think that's an option for ff anyway.

@regberadaisy: I saw that the Nautilus was popular, but wanted to see it in person. My mom bought a graco convertible for her car, and I swear it's got to be like sitting on rock. I wasn't sure if all graco's were like that. Unfortunately, being in a smaller town means I have to drive 90 minutes to see anything in person. :bummed:

We also have the graco nautilus and really like it. it I one of the seats recommended by the "car seats for the Littles" blog. That's where I started my search because I trust their reputation for being incredibly safety conscious.

We have the Britax Frontier one as well, and my son loves it (he's a little more than 3.5 and 45lbs). He loves the cup holders hahahaha. I have the same seat for my 5.5 year old and she still uses the 5 point harness (and will for awhile). I really like these boosters.

@BananaPancakes: we use the Graco Nautilus for M. I have heard great things about the frontier but I didn't want to shell out another $300. I promise her safety has not been compromised with a $139 car seat. :)

@looch: Oh, good to know. I haven't found much that explains if they're less safe than the convertibles, but I was hoping they weren't!

@bushelandapeck: That's why I'm trying to figure out what seat to pick now! Hoping I can find a good deal!

@clover: Thats what I was initially looking at since we already have a Britax, but I wasn't sure if there was another awesome seat out there I should be looking into.

We have a Britax Frontier G1.1 and its great. Easy adjustments and seat belt install (much easier than our Chicco NextFit), LO loves it.

We are in the same situation with our 3 yr 3 m old. He's 40lbs and 39.5" and the straps in his Britax are barely above his shoulders. I'm looking into the Britax Frontier and going it goes on sale during the holidays.

They are equally safe, once you are forward facing.

The combination seats are more upright and chair like, so you have more room on the sides.

We currently have a Britax Marathon convertible seat for my 3.5 year old who is 42 lbs and 40 inches. He's in the height and weight range for the seat, but he's kind of built like a tiny linebacker and we've been noticing how squished he seems lately. Not to mention that it doesn't seem like the straps actually extend any further than they're already out.

So I'm trying to do some research on 5 point harness booster seats to see if there's much of a difference in size than a convertible seat. Has anyone with a preschooler already moved out of the convertible? Recommendations for boosters? Obviously safety is our #1 concern.
