I have found that children will generally get the sleep they need. Might not be what you need or want, but they don't seem to care.

Thanks, everyone. I will just chock it up to newborn unpredictability and muddle through. Sigh....

It will pass! Weeks 5-7 were the toughest, then once week 7 hit it was like a switch turned on and he started sleeping longer stretches again.

A is 4.5 weeks and only sleeps ~9.5 hours in a 24 hour period. No long naps or long stretches at night. I think at this stage everything is so fluid and there is no normal

Mine was like this too. Just chalk it up to being a phase. Honestly, there will probably be lots and lots of phases and naps won't be consistent forever. FWIW, my LO's development has not at all been delayed. She has hit milestones on the early end of average her entire short life. And she didn't consistently get the "recommended" amount of sleep until after 10 months.

As the title of this post states, my 5 week old suddenly overnight stopped sleeping during the day. She went from having about 3 two hour naps in the day to not being able to stay asleep for more than anywhere from 2 minutes to a half hour (a few times she has slept for an hour and once for two ) over the last three days. It is continuing again today. We can get her to fall asleep but not stay asleep (she falls asleep in my arms). Surprisingly, she sleeps pretty well at night.

I have no idea what is going on. After reading online, it's either a sleep regression or perhaps a wonder week (the Week 5 one, although is that stuff real?). Maybe it's reflux? I don't know. I am worried because she's not getting much rest, and I hope it's not affecting her development.

I don't know if this is the new normal that I should accept, if there is something I can do, or if this will just pass. We are now on day 4.

Any insight would be helpful. Thanks.
