Desk 100% it we be great for so many purposes. At that age a vanity is just duplicating what they already have in the bathroom and really don't use that much.

I voted desk, but actually, I wouldn't dismiss a vanity. I feel like the kids set up is constantly changing. I voted desk for practicality and also it can pretty much double as vanity. BUT now that I think about it, I don't foresee the girls doing homework upstairs in a room, most likely going to be doing it downstairs on the dining table in the foreseeable future, so can possibly get years of use with a cute vanity, esp they will probably only want that for a period in life!

My four year old has a vanity in her room and she LOVES it. It’s the one from Pottery Barn Kids that it seems like lots of people have. It has a pink ruffle stool that makes her princess heart beyond happy.

When she outgrows it, we’ll get a desk. These particular vanities have good resale value on our local Facebook buy sell trade groups.

I have a just turned 6 year old girl. I would 100% go for the desk. My daughter has an antique dresser with a big mirror like a PP. We covered it with foil out of frustration because she spends too much time staring at herself when she's supposed to be getting dressed. The bathroom mirror is covered in foil and a sign that says "wash hands" for the same reason.

@PinkElephant: and yass the vanities are soo cute, I think that's about the only reason I even considered it!! Hahhahaha

@LCTBQE: This! I've been struggling with what to do for awhile and am currently ISO the right thing for DD1 (almost 7, which I can't believe). She's a packrat, so needs plenty of drawer space for her crap.....er.....I, mean, valuable treasured possessions. I also think I need a shelf or hutch to go with mine for "display" purposes, because in our case, there is no dresser in the room (she has a gigantic walk-in closet that makes most adults jealous, so I just never bought one).

@Ajsmommy: But the vanities are sooo cute, aren't they? I've so tempted by the style @Kaohinani: posted in the past, and I really do think it could work for homework even as is (with the mirror). Pottery Barn has some really pretty desk & hutch combos, but I'm personal wary about spending so much money for something meant to be drawn/written on by a child!

I have a "vanity" in my master bedroom and it's basically a desk with a makeup mirror on it. (Mirror like in below photo.) For what it's worth, I have an antique wall mirror over my dresser but not my vanity - it wouldn't be that useful for actually applying makeup! I feel like you need to be able to get very close to the mirror for makeup but maybe that's just me?

A desk can do whatever she wants it to do, especially as she grows. I think it’s a better long term plan

Like you said, desk with mirror. But I would style it more like an entryway console (like a cool round mirror above it or something) vs a faux-vanity mirror.

Desk.

A vanity is fun for playing dress up and princess when they are young and great for applying makeup when they are older, but she can do all that without a vanity too.

@Ajsmommy: I think a desk is more utilitarian; however, I was not certain how set you were in a vanity. A desk it is, then! 👍

@jhd: DD loves to draw and color and I think she'd probably get lots of use of the desk....
@Lahela017: I think I agree... with the bathroom right there I don't see a need for the vanity other than it's ADORABLE... lol
@Kaohinani: I did consider this as I already bought an ornate mirror for her room and I considered actually just buying a desk/table and hanging the mirror on the wall ove rit as if it's a vanity. But I also purchased an "inspiration board" that I think i'll but over the desk instead... soooo I'm leaning desk

@Ajsmommy: Would you be able to do a desk but incorporate a "desk top vanity" that is seperate from the actual desk? She could use the vanity for now and the desk as she becomes older and wishes to complete homework (or artwork) on it.

Example:

I think she'd get a lot more use out of a desk. Especially since there is a bathroom connected to her room, I'm not sure that a vanity would get used much.

I’m a boy mom and have never had a vanity in my own room, but I would 100% do a desk. We put a table and chair in my almost 5 year olds room earlier this year and he loves going in there to draw, paint, color, etc.

Just what the title says. We are moving and updating DD's bedroom stuff. She's 5 yo. She will have a bathroom connected to her room.

Would you buy a vanity/mirror combo or a desk/chair/bench?

Or do you have another idea?
