@Banana330: We tried to Ferber it for a couple morning but she wasn't settling so I have been feeding her at that time and the getting ready for work and leaving since I am already up :bummed: . It's exhausting but I keep reminding myself that she may actually be hungry or just needs me and that soon enough she will be back to sleeping...I hope...lol

We went through a period of super early wakeups too - same as pp, I fed her as soon as I heard her stir and she would eat a snack and go right back out. Even if she didn't need it, I was ok with the extra feeding, because for my own sanity, I could not get up at 4:30 for the day. Eventually she started sleeping until 5:30, which still sucked, but was still better than 4:30.

I never had a child who slept 12 hours overnight, and I drove myself crazy making sure my first LO had an early bed time, which always meant a very early awake time in our house.

She woke up at 4:45-5:00 am for an entire year...back when I put her down at 7 pm each night. Eventually I decided to screw the "more sleep begets more sleep" advice and I started putting her to bed later (I adjusted very slowly). Now she sleeps 9 pm-7 am.

My 8 week old is naturally a night owl. She won't go down till about 10 pm right now. But I've learned my lesson and won't try to make her have an earlier bed time just yet. Right now she sleeps 10-3 or 4, has a feed, then sleeps till 7, has a feed, then sleeps till 9:30 or so. I figure if I start putting her down earlier, that whole schedule will shift earlier and I don't really want that.

I think for me what helped was bringing baby into bed with me from the 4-5a wake up. Sometimes then he would sleep until 9!

She ends up needing that many naps cause she's up so early! Her awake time is still only 2hrs although by the afternoon it's stretched to 2.5. Most days it's still four naps. She also eats every 2/2.5 hrs still and try as I might she just won't go longer.
Hopefully this will pass soon and starting solids will help

Hmmmm I don't personally have any experience with this specific pattern (lots of other sleep issues of course), but what struck me is that 4 or 5 naps a day seems like a lot! I guess that is inevitable if she wakes at 4:30 am but I'm wondering if stretching her awake time might cause her to sleep in a bit longer at night time sleep. Sorry, I hope you get some more sleep soon!

Our 6.5 month LO woke up early for about a week or so at that age although she'd go back to sleep after eating. It passed. I would try to get her back down. Also you might have too much daytime napping for sleeping 12 hours at night. I wouldn't let her have more than 3 naps.

I would just consider that a night wake-up. We went through something similar where he would wake routinely around 5. As soon as I heard him, I would go in and nurse him and we'd all be back in bed 10 minutes later. He outgrew it in a few months for us too.

I remember E going through this. It's considered a night wake up and only lasted a couple months before it got stretched into the 5:00 hour.

@mrswin: It sucks! How are you coping? do you just get up and feed? or try to get them back to sleep?

@Banana330: No advice but my 5.5 month old has been doing this as well, starting last week! My obsessive Googling tells me this is usually a phase around 5 to 6 months because of lots of developmental milestones. Also Leap 5 is happening right now too if you follow that at all.

For the last few weeks my 5.5 month old has been waking progressively earlier for the day. She normally gets up around 6/6:30 (I would prefer 6:30) but lately it's been creeping towards 4:30 am. She has between 4/5 naps a day most about 45 min but occasionally up to 1.5 hrs. She's usually in bed by 6:45/7pm. She goes down for naps and to bed drowsy but awake and is great at falling asleep on her own. She'll get up once around 2 am for a feed. Lately she's been waking around 10pm and 4 am as well. We've just let her cry/settle at 10pm and it usually only takes 15 min or so but 4 am she just cries for 45min and the only way to settle her back to sleep is a quick feed. When i do feed her she's not really hungry, you can tell it's a comfort feed. Its frustrating to take an hour to get her to back to sleep for only an hour before she's up again for the day.

Any suggestions on dropping that new wake up? She's about to start solids so maybe that will help?
