@rolypoly: I think since you get home early enough to nurse him at 5 pm and 7 pm you are likely feeding him as much as everyone else. And thanks for pointing out that supply varies. I did get my period this week so hopefully that explains it. Don't know why it had to coincide with the start of school!

@gilmoregirl: My doc said he should be drinking 6-8 oz bottles (hence my confusion with what I read on the internet). :) Btw, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Gilmore Girls.

My kiddo is almost 7 months, and he takes 10 oz while I'm gone at work (two 5 oz bottles - one around 10 AM, one around 2 PM). I nurse him a 7 AM, 5 PM and 7PM, and then usually once around 3 AM. Reading these responses makes me nervous that we're not feeding him enough while I'm gone at work, but he is a pretty chunky baby so I'm just going to chalk it up to him taking in more when he breastfeeds?

One thing I'll say is not to get discouraged with pumping at work. My supply varies wildly from day to day and week to week. Some days I pump 14 oz, others I'm lucky to get 8 oz. Some weeks I am able to add three or four bags to the freezer, some weeks I use two out of the freezer. It helps just knowing I have a freezer stash just for this reason - to make sure I have back up in case I don't pump enough. It makes the oz-per-day a much less stressful endeavor if I don't feel like I failed by not matching his intake on any particular day.

Good luck!

At that age, H was drinking 12oz while she was away from me. My supply took a hit once my period returned, and now at 11 months she gets six ounces while she is at daycare but eats two meals and a snack as well.

@gilmoregirl: I think with BM, it can vary so much depending on mom and baby. I have an EPing friend whose baby was drinking 36 oz of Bm a day (!), but luckily the friend had a huge supply so never had problems keeping up. And her LO was only 50% for weight, so also not a huge kiddo.

I think depending on what mom is eating, BM can be more or less fatty, and then babies have different appetites, too.

She takes 4 oz bottles every 2 hours that I'm gone. So, generally 12-16 oz during the 9 hours that I'm gone.

@Anagram: Sorry to threadjack, but I am so relieved to read this. My LO takes 6-7oz bottles, and I really thought we were doing it wrong because everything I read says they take less. But he's just not satisfied unless he gets to 6 oz -- we've tried it all.

Thanks, everyone. We'll experiment using these ranges. It's heartening to hear that we may be at the worst of it.

Our nanny worked a lot with me/LO to figure out the number of bottles and ounces per bottle. LO is six months old and nurses/gets a bottle every 3-4 hours. She usually gets two 7 ounce bottles, but sometimes she needs a third (smaller) bottle to make it until I can feed her again. This took a lot of trial and error. Our nanny reads LO's hunger cues and I trust her to adjust as needed. Luckily, I have a freezer stash and I pump before I go to bed to cover any amount I'm short after my pumping sessions during the day.

She also eats 4 ounces of solids per day. I nurse her when she gets up and before bed. She rarely wakes up overnight, but depending on her hunger cues, I may or may not nurse her then.

I've recently figured out protein and water intake make the biggest difference in my supply.

She pretty much always had the same intake...never really went up or down. At that age she would get around 13 oz while I was at work.

Same as @catomd00: at that age. He had 3 bottles, each about 4oz. If I had an off day and I didn't pump enough, I would pump before I went to bed. Now, at 9.5 months, he's eating a lot more solids, so his milk intake is about 9oz while I'm at work, rather than 12.

We were around 13 ounces, sometimes up to 14 or 15 if they used the frozen milk. 6 to 7 months were the toughest for me in terms of keeping up because LO was drinking a lot of milk. I had to pump after she went to bed to keep up. I always thought daycare was overfeeding her but never found a way around just giving more milk.

I will say that once solids were more established, starting around 8 months, things got much easier because she could just have food if I sent a little less milk. Definitely took some of the pressure off.

My 6.5 month old gets 12 oz (3 4oz bottles). Had been that way since 4 months. Generally they say 1-1.25 oz for hour you are gone.

I EPd and my LO was drinking 28-30 oz a day at that age (because she was not at all into solids yet, but her appetite was increasing). She got bottles at 6:30 am, 9:30am, 12:30 pm, 3:30 pm, and 7:00 pm before bed. 6 oz in each bottle, 3 bottles at daycare, so 18 oz at daycare. All BM.

She's only 28% for weight and 80% for height, so she's not even that big of an eater.

I just recently returned back to work a couple days a week (I work from home the other days) and am having a hard time keeping up with demand. Today, for instance, I pumped 8 ounces during 3 sessions that I barely fit in in between my classes and meetings. He drank 14.5. :/ I know my supply is low right now for some reason (I am doing supplements, etc to get it back up), but I really have no idea how much to tell the nanny to give him. My pediatrician and kellymom seem to have different opinions on the matter. For what its worth, on the days I am home, he generally breastfeeds at 5 am, 7 am, 10 am, 1 pm, 4 pm and 6 pm. He then has an 8 ounce bottle of formula at his 7 pm bedtime plus a couple ounces of solids twice a day. Anyway, does anyone recall their LO's typical breastmilk intake during the work day at the 6-7 month mark? I can try to pump extra on the days I am with him to make up for the shortfall, but I don't want to be overfeeding him. I know this isn't an exact science, but that's what makes it so frustrating!
