Could it be strep? I used to get it every year as a kid and always had bad breath when I got it. I hope your LO is ok!

This just happened to my LO a few weeks ago when he had croup and was also cutting his molars (fun times). It went away after a few days when he seemed to get over his cold and his cough wasn't as bad.

I would ask the ped. It never hurts to ask! Have you tried brushing his tongue with a wet washcloth? I try to do this every night after my GF told me she thought our "thrush" was really milk tongue. Our 2nd ped thought so too, and also mentioned the washcloth thing...

@erwoo: I'm hoping that's it. It would also explain him waking up more frequently/frantically tonight.

Every time my LO is cutting teeth his breath smells bad and then when it's mostly out it goes back to normal. It could be just cutting teeth. Just monitor and if you're concerned talk to his ped. Hopefully it's just that! :D

Hm DH always says that DS's breath smells like mozzarella from breastmilk... That's really the only weird breath we smell.

I remember the aunts teasing my godson of his "stale" breath (that's what they called it) but I was thinking he was way too young for that. He was about 6 or 7 months, healthy kid, good napper, ate well, etc. I guess it just depends on the baby. My LO at 7 months still has the sweet, baby breath. It smells like sweet milk mixed with honey right now.

My husband noticed that LO has really bad breath sometimes at night. I had never noticed before until he had croup, which I wrote off to him having to breathe out of his mouth so much. Then, today I noticed during his late afternoon nap. Earlier in the day it was fine, but it was rancid in the afternoon.

About an hour ago he woke up screaming, which is pretty unusual. His breath is really, really bad right now. Is this normal for a baby his age? Could it be reflux or tummy troubles? He has 2 solid meals a day.

ETA: He is also teething. He has 3 teeth that broke through over the past month and 2 that are trying to break through now. I'm not sure if that could be the culprit somehow?
