6 out of 6 and I've had a strong sense of engagement at all of my jobs...not the well-being part, haha.

I had more than one professor who made me excited about learning. All the professors in my major knew me as an individual and were vested in me succeeding. One of those professors was my mentor, but I also had 2 other mentors in college (one was the Dean of Students and the other was a Resident Director). I had 2 internships, 2 classes with semester-long projects and was on student government, a reporter for the paper, and a resident assistant.

I am a special snowflake! :silly:

I got 3 out of 6. I was not very involved & I didn't make the effort to build relationships with professors even though I had the opportunities for both. I have only had two jobs out of college & I was moderately satisfied at the first one, and completely miserable at the second one. Now I am freelancing part-time & very satisfied so far.

What the article has to say is pretty compelling, though! I think the college years are a very critical time when mindsets & habits are established that may shape the rest of your life.

5 out of 6 for my undergrad - I went to a private school with a graduating class of 650 (smaller than my high school).
5 out 6 for my masters.
Aside from the very long hours, I loved my job and found it very engaging. I worked at the same place for 7 years prior to being a SAHM.

6 out of 6.

It was a new program, so classes were small and the 'professors' were just people from the industry taking time to teach a class. I was crazy involved, so I already knew most of my professors from working with them previously - a LOT of great student/teacher relationships! I actually miss school sooo much.

The only question that pertains to me at all is #6, and I'm extremely satisfied with my job.

The real problem is how so few "affordable" colleges today can accommodate the pipe dream of those questions...

6 out of 6. :)

I went to a small, christian college, so I feel like it was easy to realize the above statements. None of my classes had more than 40 people in them, I had a personal relationship with several of my profs, a great Christian mentor, etc.

3) I had a mentor who encouraged me to pursue my goals and dreams. Yes. Unfortunately he passed away last year.

5) I had an internship or job that allowed me to apply what I was learning in the classroom. Yes. I had an internship the summer before my senior year.

6) I was extremely active in extracurricular activities and organizations while attending [college]. Yes

I think I can only relate to 5 & 6!

I went to a huge school and I honestly don't really remember profs being extremely good or bad. I had an adviser, but I wouldn't have called him my mentor.

Even with the internship, they didn't 100% had to do with what I was studying... So the only thing I got was clubs and extracurricular!

No wonder I never really loved my job(s) :silly:

I can relate to all of these. I can strongly relate to 5 of them but #2 is iffy. There was one professor who went out of her way to get to know all of her students and she was the professor in my focus.

I scored 4 out of six, the first four questions.

I had a graphic design internship at an ad agency my junior year, but didn't start my JMA degree until the following year.

I also didn't participate in any extracurricular activities. I simply didn't have the time -- a major & two minors plus a job and internship!

These six questions supposedly predict how much of "a strong sense of well-being and engagement" you have at work:

1) I had at least one professor at [College] who made me excited about learning. (63 percent strongly agree)
2) My professors at [College] cared about me as a person. (27 percent)
3) I had a mentor who encouraged me to pursue my goals and dreams. (22 percent)
4) I worked on a project that took a semester or more to complete. (32 percent)
5) I had an internship or job that allowed me to apply what I was learning in the classroom. (20 percent)
6) I was extremely active in extracurricular activities and organizations while attending [college]. (20 percent)

According to the article, "Students who strongly agreed with the above statements were as much as twice as likely to have a strong sense of well-being and engagement at work. But the sad part was that only 3 percent of respondents strongly agreed with all six measures."

I scored a 3 out of 6... I can't remember any professors caring about me as a person, or that I ever had a mentor. And all my jobs were pretty crappy, because I had to earn money for college.

How did you do?
