@keepcalmcarrie: when I had thrush it felt like shares of glass coming out of my breast.
Can you scrape the white off of his tongue? DD2 had just the tiniest speck on the roof of her mouth. Hoping it's not thrush because it's so painful.
Nice job on the weight gain!

I got a clogged duct (in my armpit of all places) around my babe's six week growth spurt. I think I was exhausted from feeding him constantly And had a bit of an oversupply/not empting the boob on each feeding. The lactation nurse at the hospital told me not to pump because that is signalling your body to produce more milk. Now at 10 weeks it seems my supply has evened out.

@SleepyMonkey: Yeah, I thought thrush too except he doesn't have any coating inside his cheeks. But maybe that's not always a sign?

@MrsScallop: Thanks! I do have a pump, I tried that earlier and it helped a little but the pain was/is definitely still there :(

I have a red spot now, about the size of a quarter, under the nipple, and can feel a lump. LO has a white costing in his tongue, but I feel like he usually has that and it's from milk... I guess I'll just take a Motrin and call tomorrow morning. I just saw the Dr for my 6 week PP visit yesterday and this wasn't an issue!

I am not sure but from what i read on these boards, when you have thrush, it is really painful when your milk lets down.

:( sorry you are going through that! I would guess it is an oversupply issue since it sounds like your LO is satisfied before draining you completely. I know I had a few days where I was engorged and couldn't get my pump to empty me completely and it was really painful until I figured it out. If you have a pump, I would try pumping, otherwise, definitely give your Dr a call if it continues to be so painful. Hope you feel better soon!

Bump.

I'm debating calling my OB tomorrow - during letdown it's like my breast is on fire! That doesn't sound like normal engorgment, oversupply, or bruising from compressions. I tried dangle feeding and will continue that. Ughh.

LO will be 6 weeks on Saturday, and he was cluster feeding for the past week up until two nights ago.

The past two nights, he's given me a few overnight stretches of 3-4 hours (it had been every 2-3 hours). During the day now he's still feeding every 2-3 hours, but at least half the time he'll only feed on one side and then refuse to nurse the other breast. This is happening overnight now too.

I'm feeling engorged and like he's never totally emptying either breast. I tried massaging the right breast overnight when he fell back asleep after only eating from the left, and milk was shooting everywhere and now today it's extremely sore! I don't think it's a plugged duct or mastitis, but it feels like a giant bruise and really hurts during letdown (which is painful for me anyway).

Isn't supply supposed to regulate by now? I was very engorged weeks 2-3, then felt good up until now. Could the cluster feeding have given me an oversupply? Or is this good for the 6 week growth spurt? I pumped the sore breast today when he only nursed the other side, and I'm trying to offer it first for most feeds.

I don't remember having "too much milk" around LO1's 6 week growth spurt, but that feels like my problem right now. Also, LO2 has gained almost 5 lbs in 5 weeks (7 lbs 14 oz at birth, 12 lbs 6 oz yesterday at his 1 month checkup) - is he an overeater?
