DS would fall asleep around 9/930 at the beginning. Around 4 months, he naturally transitioned to 730.

Totally normal! For a long time, DD didn't really have a bedtime; she just went to bed whenever we did since she is not awake for a long stretch anyway. I totally forget when she finally started to have a schedule, but it's def after 3-4 months! Even now, my 8 mo old sometimes doesn't sleep till 9 or even 10 b/c she is in the middle of transitioning from 3 naps to 2 and still needs a late cat nap some days. Or some kids are just naturally later sleepers.

@Jess1483 @foodnerd81 @mrskc + everyone else:

Thanks so much for your replies. I think because she hasn't been crazy fussy/colicky during that time (meaning she is usually able to be consoled by being held/walking around the house and isn't crying for hours) that her wakefulness was something different.

A friend of mine's baby did the 7pm bedtime at around the same age as my baby... I am still learning I can't compare myself or my daughter to others! So, tonight I embraced the fact that she wasn't going to nap and I could either hold her/entertain her until she ate again or try wearing her in her carrier so I could try to have my hands free and help get dinner going. Maybe it's a fluke but she passed out over an hour ago in it! She's actually still asleep on me. Maybe she is high-need for closeness around this time :) (she's usually held often this time of night but I've not worn her in the carrier.)

Either way, the links and experiences shared were helpful and helped me feel more normal about things! Thanks everyone :)

even with some sleep training, baby will wake up during the night so getting them to go down earlier doesn't change much. my 9wk old has consistently gone to bed around 930, seems to be the usual.

Agree with what's been said already. Her long stretch of awake time in the early evening is likely the witching "hour" (though it lasts longer than one hour!!) At that age, it's very normal to have bedtime pretty late. It could also be partly that she hasn't sorted out her nights and days yet (also normal for that age). I don't think there's much you can do at this point other than ride it out. Bedtime naturally shifts as time goes on.

Sounds really normal! Newborns usually have late bedtimes. Plus, they are usually more alert during the evening during their "witching hour". I remember my daughter not settling until 11 pm - midnight some nights!! She will naturally start shifting to an earlier bedtime.

I printed out the chart in this post and put it up on the fridge. It's a great little guide to go off of for baby sleep.

It's counterintuitive, but newborns tend to have late bedtimes!

At that age, my LO didn't go to bed until around 9-9:30, so I think it totally normal. Now she goes to bed around 7-7:30, but that didnt start until she was over 3 months.

Sounds normal to me. My guy's bedtime was between 10-11pm at that age, and now it's solidly 8pm. And he set that bedtime himself. Over time (maybe around 3.5-4 months) that was what time he turned into a fussy britches and conked out.

Most babies have bedtimes in the 9-11pm range at that age. T is 12 weeks old and is still at about 8:30pm. It takes awhile to get into the 7 pm range

My LO was like that - we just did bedtimes around 9/9:30 until 4 months or so when she was ready to move her bedtime up to 7. We've been at 7pm ever since and she is 21 months.

Is there any chance your LO is getting their days and nights confused? If you aren't already I would recommend making sure you have the blinds open and lots of regular noise and no naps over 2 hours. Nighttime is opposite, lower lights and less noise. I found that helped my little guy figure out when it was bedtime and he went down much easier.

Yeah I remember at that age she definitely went to bed much later than she does now. But my kid also didn't like to nap, so that was less fun. A lot of times we would go for a walk in the Moby- she wouldn't sleep but the fresh air was nice and she would get extra mellow in the carrier.

I agree with starting to do a routine, just later.

Bedtime will naturally shift earlier soon. I found this post really helpful.

http://www.troublesometots.com/bedtime-what-time/

I would still institute a routine, but just do it around 9 p.m. When baby is ready for an earlier bedtime, do the same routine at the earlier time.

My 6.5 week old typically naps easily during the day (she has awake times as well but just naps without much of an issue) but after afternoon feeds (between 3-5pm) she does not want to nap and either fights any attempt we make or wakes easily within minutes of dozing off. She isn't fussy necessarily, just super awake. It usually takes at least another feeding or two (so, getting closer to 9pm) before she will finally sleep again.

I am hoping to head towards sleep training at some point, or at least a bedtime routine happening around 7pm eventually, but she is just SO awake around then.

Any tips? I know she is still little but it seems like sleep routines/training around 8-10 weeks is not out of the question.

Thanks!
