Actually my husband and the tech did. I couldn't see it. And I have good vision! Weird. I was crazy nervous because of spotting and I had to travel the next week so that's why she did it but it wasn't really worth much. Plus, my doctor's advice was essentially that if the pregnancy wasn't going to be viable, there was absolutely nothing that she or I could do to stop a miscarriage. I had an u/s at 5w1d with DD because my beta numbers indicated an ectopic and my doctor wanted to treat it as soon as possible so I didn't lose the tube (I only have one working tube). We saw that the pregnancy was in the uterus, but that was it - all we saw was a sack. No heartbeat, no fetal pole. So while it was nice to know that the pregnancy was not ectopic, it did *nothing* to alleviate my worries about miscarriage. We had to go back at 6w1d to see a heartbeat.
