Is she drinking excessive amounts of fluid? We experienced this at age 3 with my daughter and brought her in for testing to make sure she didn’t have diabetes. During the covid shelter in place, she would just sit around chugging water out of boredom and then need to pee a lot. Once we determined diabetes wasn’t the culprit, the doc said it was a matter of training her to make it longer stretched in between potty breaks by distracting her. Twelve months later she’s back at school and life is more normal for her and this issue has gone away.

Also, general constipation can be linked to more accidents or more pee urges. The colon can be overfilled and crowd out / squeeze the bladder. Kids should poop daily and the consistency should be like a 3-4 on the Bristol stool chart (google images for that one, yuck)

My kids do this when they have growth spurts. We also get a lot more accidents at night when they are growing. It comes and goes and we just try to not make a big deal out of it.

My five year old had this happen at the beginning of the year. It turns out he was constipated and the poop was pushing on his bladder. He was having bowel movements regularly so we had no idea. After cutting down on dairy and adding a probiotic with fiber his peeing went back to normal.

My 8 year old's anxiety seems to manifest as needing to pee a lot. For example, at the beginning of kindergarten, her teachers mentioned that she needed to go to the bathroom A LOT. I didn't worry too much about it, since I knew that's what she does when she's a little nervous, and it resolved itself within a month or so.

@MommySLP: @LemonJack: @bhbee: Thank you all for responding. It’s always hard to tell between my anxiety and mother’s intuition. I think this time it’s my anxiety taking over. She has barely gone today, so I think it’s already improving.

@MommySLP: I didn’t know there was a name for it! My niece had this around 4-5 and it was stressful for them but like others it wasn’t anything serious and it resolved over time.

This sounds like me as a kid. I’ve always wondered if I had a smaller than average bladder or if there was something else going on, but it was never anything serious. To this day I drink liquids super slowly because that’s what I had to train myself to do. My mom is the same way.

@CatchAFallingStar: my 7 year old has bouts of this, and it comes and goes. We’ve found it related to stress or new situations (starting school, etc). He doesn’t go at all during the night and it may be frequent daytime and then it’ll go away for a few months, etc. We were told to let him go as often as possible and not bring attention to it or make a big deal out of it. Here is the name we were given:

Pollakiuria
Pollakiuria, also called frequent daytime urination syndrome, is a common although not very well-known cause of frequent urination in young children. Most common between the ages of 4 and 6 years, these children pass small amounts of urine about 10 times to 30 times each day.

They might also wake up at night to urinate. With this diagnosis, your child should have no other symptoms and a normal urinalysis. Although sometimes related to stress, no specific trigger is found for many children with pollakiuria and it often goes away in a few weeks or months without any treatment.

As many of you know, I have issues with severe anxiety, especially when it comes to the health of my kids. My 6-yr old daughter has been having to pee very frequently and sometimes right after she goes, she feels like she has to go again. This is only during waking hours. She has no other symptoms. Her pediatrician tested her for bladder and urinary infections and she had neither. I’m so scared that she has bladder cancer or something else terrible. I guess I’m just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and knows what may be causing it. Thank you
