I asked her about it a few times because it was quite noticeable. Her doc said it would clear up as she got older and it did. It seems pretty involuntary to baby though... maybe it is something similar to what your LO does. I've heard that the back of the throat is still developing at this stage so it could just be a quirk of his. I guess if the pedi says it's okay then I need to relax. He sounds like he's sucking air through his mouth and not his nose. It is really hard to describe a sound in type. Anyway, I asked his doctor about it and he told me that the sound is air going across maybe the vocal chords? I can't remember exactly, but he told me that he will grow out of it, and that it isn't anything to worry about now. I would bring it up at your 2month appointment, but if his dad does it and is fine, I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. He makes it while awake, especially after eating, when he gets excited/worked up, and even when he is just quietly alert.</p> <p>It is very very hard to describe so I've included a link to a youtube video of him making the noise (please turn your volumes up!) It sounds like he is clearing his throat or sucking in short little breaths. It is most noticeable in the first few seconds around 30 seconds in, and around the 1:00 mark. </p> <p>It is NOT grunting and his lungs are clear. Pedi has said it's normal but there's something nagging at me. I've never known a baby to make this noise, especially more often than not!
