@periwinklebee: yes agree with everything above!
@PurplePumps: maybe?? Our girl was majorly constipated for almost a month (she pooped 3x in 4 weeks) around 3 months of age—she was clearly SO uncomfortable and it affected both eating and sleep. How was last night after he cleared himself out?

I dunno if this is related or not... but he took FIVE big poops today (rather than 1 every 2-3 days) and he's been asleep for 2 hours. Maybe he's been super uncomfortable? Crossing my fingers that he keeps sleeping a few more. (2-3 was pretty typical before all the crazy short 1 hr wakings)

@PurplePumps: I would guess if this hasn't been an issue before that it's a change in sleep physiology that happens with development and not reflux. That is typical around this age. Usually reflux is worse the younger the baby, and will be associated with some discomfort after eating and wanting to eat frequent small meals. We rarely use CIO, but in this scenario I think I would insist on sleepy but awake even if there is a ton of crying initially. They do adjust pretty quickly, and it can help a ton. It will get better, hang in there!

@periwinklebee: @Ajsmommy: @LCTBQE: I'm not sure if it could be. He doesn't spit up very often or seem bothered when eating or after. Would reflux come and go? Or is it more of a regular thing? This only just started happening.

For us, this exact behavior was a result of silent reflux and it stopped immediately when we got baby girl on Pepcid. She hardly spit up like normal baby spit up, but sometimes (this happened rarely, like maybe 10x ever) she would wail miserably and then projectile vomit everything across the room. Is there any chance he could have silent reflux?

Wakings shortly after being put down or within a sleep cycle (around 35-45 minutes) are generally a sign of a sleep association/that your baby doesn't know how to put himself to sleep. The best way out that I know is to eliminate sleep associations (nursing/rocking to sleep) and that generally involves sleep training in some form or fashion. (Not necessarily what you are asking about but happy to recount my experiences sleep training if that would help!)

I attributed all of DS's bad sleep that young to his reflux.

My son initially would never sleep for more than 10-15 minutes at a time. It turned out to be silent reflux, it was night and day after getting medicine for it. But if your LO is older and hasn't had any issues before, this seems less likely. Maybe just a shitty stage

The past few nights, DS has been waking up several times after just 7-10 minutes! I put him down to sleep, he wakes after 30 minutes and has to be helped back to sleep. Then he does 2 or 3 times of 7-10 minutes before we finally get an hour stretch. What could be causing these mini wakings?! As if every hour or two (we actually got a 2 hr stretch last night) wasn't bad enough... these are just aggravating. And then overnight this may happen once or twice too.
