My LO was more interested in crawling then sitting up. He was an early crawler at 6 months and didn't sit up for a few weeks after that. I did a few 'exercises' to help him sit, but never forced it. They were all fun exercises :) You can search it on youtube but one of them was making them sit in a tripod like formation with them holding their weight forward on their hands. Another was having my legs out in a V and sitting him inbetween them & holding onto his hands. Rocking him back and forth (singing row row row your boat) and side to side.

@Jackiedavis87: the developmental concept I subscribe to encourages parents not to 'make' kids do things sooner than they are ready. I'd just give him lots of floor time.

@Jackiedavis87: I thought so, too, but I created a thread about out of order milestones and a few peoples chimed in to say some of their LOs were crawling before sitting.

Thanks everyone, this has really eased my mind. I just wasnt sure if I should be propping him up with pillows a certain amount everyday or something else I wasn't aware I should be doing.

@Jackiedavis87: it sounds like he is close. T started sitting and crawling on the same day around 6.5 months. I would not force it.

@bluestriped bee: he's not on his knees yet, but he's constantly on his hands. Your making me feel better! I'm not sure why but for some reason I was under the impression that they had to be able to sit before they could crawl.

@youboots: yes and no, i guess it's army crawling? Where he just kind of rocks back and forth. He also shoves his butt in the air and buries his head and scoots like that.
@hummusgirl: oh yes he rolls everywhere!

I feel like maybe he's lazy? Lol I usually lay him on a blanket in the living room and put a favorite toys just far enough away. His response is to pull the blanket ( and toy) toward him, instead of moving hisself toward it.

Both my babies were late sitters. They started sitting unassisted at 9 months and 9.5 months (7.5 and 8 months adjusted). They were both on their hands and knees and mostly crawling before sitting.

My kiddo didn't sit at all--in her own or placed there by us--until 7 months. Even then, it was infrequent and mostly w sitting. She crawled, pulled to standing, and cruised before she really did much sitting. She was too interested in moving.

No real advice, but my LO1 was definitely nowhere close to sitting at 7 months. Even at 8 months, we had to constantly be hovering because he would tip over all the time. I tried to sort of sit behind him and stabilize his hips so he could start to balance his torso on his own, but I don't know that it really helped - he just needed more time. He eventually got there! Does he have plenty of opportunities to just roll around on the floor?

LO2 started sitting, super-stable, at 6 months. I was shocked.

I have no idea what I'm doing! DS is almost 7 months and I called a to schedualle his 6 month check-up but of course it's going to take a month to get him in, so he'll actually be over 7 months. Anyways I said all of that to say he has no interest in sitting up on his own. He can only hold hisself up for a second. What can I be doing to help him sit up? Since I have about 2 more weeks before his appt. I'm really hoping he can sit for a few seconds by then. The most effort I've seen him show in sitting up on his own is when I'm trying to put him in the car seat lol.😂
