@madison43 sounds like reflux to me. I know that for my son (he's 10 months old with seriously horrible reflux), any kind of bodily "insult" makes his reflux flare - i.e. a cold, teething, shots, etc. And he's so sensitive to meds. I would really push for increased meds. Don't taper off unless you're not having any reflux symptoms. If you are not getting what you need from your ped, go to a pediatric GI.

My son's reflux is finally getting a bit better but only because we DOUBLED his Nexium dose a few weeks ago. He is on almost an adult dose (35 mg/day) and we may bump him up to 40mg.

Do you have her crib elevated at night? That may help a little. I think it's reflux, at least from our experience.

@Madison43: Is it possible the ear infection is back or didn't fully clear up. Lying down is very painful, maybe that is what's causing the crying?

Hmm that's not how our ped handled it. We knew it was time to taper off the meds when the baby outgrew the dose for weight and had no symptoms. Prior to that it was pretty obvious every time we needed to up the dose because it was miserable and we would go into the doctor and sure enough there had been sufficient weight gain to need an increase. So there would have been no tapering with a symptomatic baby. I'd ask for a weight adjusted dose asap! Better meds for a little longer than esophagus damage.

@MrsSRS: @peaches1038: ugh. I guess I knew that was what was happening but I was really hoping she'd start to grow out of it. I did ask about bumping her meds up recently, but the ped felt that the dosage increase would be minimal and was also indicated that she expected that we would taper off the meds soon. I had read that reflux flares up post illness so I'm hoping that we are just in a post ear infection bad spell and that we are not going back to the reflux trenches again.

DS is 8 months as well andbalsondoesnthis. We just started Zantac 2 weeks ago and it has decreased a lot. I would say her meds need to be adjusted, especially if she stops screaming when being held more upright

Crazy young night terrors, maybe? Otherwise: reflux meds have to be adjusted so often due to weight gain. Have hers been checked lately?

My 8 month old is still getting up at least 2 times a night. The weird thing is she is not actually waking up - rather, her eyes are completely closed like she is asleep but she is screaming bloody murder. Her eyes stay closed even when you pick her up - she only really wakes up if I check her diaper or turn on the light or make a lot of noise. She'll take a bottle sometimes but will start to cry again within 5 mins of being put down. I've let her fuss for a few minutes to see if it's just a sleep cycle thing but it always escalates into full blow screaming. To be fair, she's had a rough go - illness is May and June, a new tooth and an underlying reflux issue. I feel helpless because it seems like something is clearly makin her upset but I have no idea wtf it is. We were at the doctor on Friday and her ears were ok. Ive given her Tylenol twice at night for her tooth and it hasn't made a difference in the sleep disturbances.

Reflux mamas - do this sound like reflux? Maybe I need to change up her meds?

Does anyone else's baby do this? I'm all out of ideas and super tired.
