I would say let your little one have the loaded spoon. It's funny that they want to be independent and food at that age is for fun anyway. When my LO first started solids she was all about grabbing the spoon. I would keep hold of the back of the spoon but let her take charge. More food ended up on her but she seemed happy and did really good experimenting with different purées. One day she just lost interest (or maybe realized that she gets to eat more when mom does all the work)!

I think at 8 months you can definitely offer soft solids for her - Cheerios, soft cooked veggies, fruits, etc. Also, I sometimes would let C have the spoon(s) and give him puree with my (very clean) finger at our worst moments of territorialism with the spoon.

My LO just turned 8 months old and has suddenly lost interest in eating solids. We've been doing purees since 6 months and although she has never been a huge eater, it seemed like she was starting to enjoy it more/getting the hang of it (we'd recently gone from one meal a day to two). Now she takes a bite or two and then tries to grab the spoon. When I don't let her hold it, she gets upset and refuses to eat. I've tried letting her hold her own spoon while I feed her and that doesn't seem to work (she then wants them both). And she definitely can't put the spoon with food on it in her mouth yet.

Should we move away from purees and try whole foods instead? I've tried giving her little bits of banana and a few other things but she definitely doesn't have the pincer grasp going yet.

I know "food before one is just for fun" but worry that she isn't getting enough exposure to solids. Any thoughts/suggestions?
