@Mrsbells: I'd def send to daycare before he masters it at home! My oldest never did anything at home until she did it there (other than eating food, because I had to draw the line somewhere :P ) Good luck!

My kiddo didn't get the straw cup until 11 months. He did the soft sippy around 9 months. It was frustrating, but then he got it overnight

T was right around that age when she finally figured it out. I'd wait 2 weeks and try again.

Normal. DS1 never got how to use a sippy, but clicked with the straw cup around 11 months.

DS2 didn't understand how to use a sippy cup until he was over 11 months old (and this was after months of using a transition cup that was essentially his baby bottle with handles on it). And he had zero interest in straws. Then one day a few weeks ago, something clicked and he understood how to use sippy cups all by himself. But still not interested in straws (we've tried 4 different kinds, plus pouches). Boy could not figure out how to suck.

Swear to God, this past weekend (he turned 1 yesterday), out of literally nowhere, he crawled right up to DS1's Foogo and started pounding his milk. Then grabbed his Contigo and started sucking water out of it. And then crushed an applesauce pouch by himself.

I don't know if it matters, but neither of my boys ever wanted to hold/drink their own bottles, so I think they were just delayed on the cup thing.

I would definitely send whatever cups you want the baby to use to daycare. DS2 seems to have the most success with a handle cup right now, so he gets a Munchkin weighted straw cup or the Tommee Tippee transition straw cup.

I would not stress about it yet. Just keep offering. Some young babies may also not "get" a straw and may need more of a spout like a bottle to grasp the concept.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: No I havent started sending it to daycare yet. I guess my strategy was for him to master it at home first? might have to rethink that

We had to revisit sippy cups until LO was closer to a year old. Once we started sending a straw cup to daycare LO figured it out at took one at home. After about two weeks I stopped offering a bottle altogether.

Are you sending a straw sippy to daycare?

DS will not drink water unless I give it to him in his bottle. Its frustrating me. I have tried 3 different water cups. One had a sippy spout and two of them were straw cups. he just nibbles on the straw/spout. with DD it was so easy I just gave her the zoli cup and she figured it out. Do any of your babies just refuse to drink water out of a cup?
