Mine had some weeks where he took less but was always small so sometimes lower end of average on the scale but loved solids. I can remember some days where he only had 20 oz of formula and other days when he had 30. He didn't consistently taper off until we bottle weaned him. He was drinking a lot around age 1 - probably 28 oz and 3 meals plus snacks. Your child knows what she needs and you can't force her to drink more so I would try not to worry but would keep track of what she eats. We all have weeks where we don't eat as much.

I forgot to mention that 24-30 oz is a lot less than he was drinking before he started eating a lot of solids! He also has off days where he will completely refuse a bottle.

@Anagram: One thing that worked for us, was actually splitting some bottles up. It's almost like LO is too busy and distracted (and interested in solids) to eat lately. So he won't sit through a 4 oz bottle, but he'll take 2 oz at a time. Almost more like 'snacking?'

Thanks ladies! She ended up drinking a 5 oz bottle before bed so she did make it to 22. Yay! My Ped told me once months ago that my LO should be drinking 24-30 oz a day so I didn't know if I should be worried that Lo is constantly in the 20-22 oz range now for the past week.

Glad to see your LOs have been through this too and it's somewhat normal!

Our LO has been dropping her formula intake as well as she eats more solids, especially at daycare. She used to drink an avg of 30oz, and now it's a range of 22-24 usually. We decided to up her morning and night bottles to 7 oz so that even if she barely eats at daycare, we can get over 20oz in her.

Around 9ish months my solids-crazy LO started drinking less milk/refusing bottles or nursing sessions occasionally. I just make sure to give him plenty of calorie dense foods, and cheese, yogurt, etc. at every "meal"

my guy is 9 months and the MD said we might notice him start to drop a bottle feed now so 8.5 months doesn't sound that far off.

My ped said no less than 16 ounces. He was around 20-22 most of the time from 8 months until 1 year.

I think that is fine. How much does your pedi want LO to get a day?

Do you make her food? If so I would use milk instead of water to thin it out (if you aren't already). I also would wait and see if she does this for several days in a row, or if today was just a fluke.

Mine have decreased significantly in the amount they drink. It's been gradual since about 8 months or so and now at almost 10 months and eating 3 meals a day, they nurse or have a bottle 4x a day, which I'm guessing is somewhere between 18-20oz total. Maybe it's time to start upping the solid food intake for your LO if you're concerned?

I think around 9 months LO definitely started decreasing the amount of milk he drank in favor of solids. I think as long as she's within the range of 19-30oz (huge range obviuosly, but that's what kelly mom states is normal for BM fed babies) then I think she's fine. That being said, I know she's had feeding issues, so maybe mention to your pedi if she continues to refuse BM?

My LO has always had feeding issues, but finally at 8.5 months old she is starting to get into solids. The bad news is, when she eats solids, she refuses to drink the "right" amount of milk.

I've heard that they shouldn't decrease milk at this age (right?) but she is. Today she's only had 17 oz so far and skipped an entire bottle (we tried literally 5-6 times, but she just wouldn't take it). So she has gone 7 hours with no milk, but ate 3 oz of solids in that time, plus a few puffs.

We tried the milk first and she wouldn't take it for several hours, so then we resorted to solids, which she (right now) is always happy about.

If she drinks her nighttime bottle normally, she'll be at 22 oz for the day. She used to drink 26-28 oz. This is pumped breast milk.

Is this about right? Or do you all have children who maintain the same amount of milk intake while still increasing solids?
