Glad you're getting checked out! I know the swelling can do crazy things this late in the game (I gained 3.5 lbs in 5 days a few weeks ago...yikes!). As long as the docs are monitoring your pre-eclampsia signs and symptoms, all should be good!

I really hope everything goes well!

Have you been eating a lot of fast food? Or salty foods? I swelled like crazy one week, after eating some Chinese take out. After drinking loads of water and eating cucumbers (helps reduce fluids) I peed like crazy and was better.

So, my advice is to eat melon or cucumbers, avoid ginger (it raises blood pressure!) and drink water! You may pee so much that you think your water is breaking (guilty). But then you'll see your feet go down to an appropriate size.

Keep your feet up as much as possible and try to relax!

I gained a ton of weight in the last month or two, that was when I gained almost all of my weight actually. In my case, it was "normal" so to speak (as in, no huge swelling issues or pre-e) but idk. Thinking of you though!

@BananaPancakes: This is what I was going to say.

Weight gain more than 2+ lbs a week can be symptomatic of Pre-e, which is what I had. the only "cure" is to deliver the baby and it can be scary if it progresses too far so a lot of mama's with pre-e are induced. I was induced at 38+5 for it. Mine hadn't reached critical stages though.

BUT it is not always that case - sometimes it's just regular old pregnancy swelling and fluid retention! Try not to worry and just follow your OB's advice :) it will all work out in the end. Good luck!

This happened to me when I was 30-something weeks. Mine was from where I normally had am appointments and went in the afternoon and my swelling was out of control.

I had been telling the Dr how bad my swelling was, but until they saw it themselves they thought I was exaggerating. I was induced at 39 weeks bc of BP and swelling issues.

I gained a lot near the end of my pregnancy. Keep in mind that in the last month or so, the baby is doing a lot of weight gain. With the baby's weight gain, you're going to have extra fluid, etc. as well. My blood pressure rose near the end too. I went in for a couple of blood pressure checks when I got dizzy and had a bit of blurred vision. Everything was fine, but the baby also starts to put pressure on your veins and arteries as it gets bigger in the final month. Just take it easy and drink lots and lots of water.

It's probably water weight. I was horribly puffed up with fluids towards the end, and gained a good 5lbs. one week. Just drink as much water as you can! I dropped 20lbs. of water weight within a week of giving birth...it was insane how much fluid I had retained.

I gained 10 lbs in 2 weeks towards the end of my pregnancy. It was because I swelled intensely around 35 weeks. They just kept an eye on me to be sure I didn't have any other signs of preeclampsia (I didn't), and nothing else came of it. I went quickly from "cute" pregnant to "water balloon/sausage" pregnant. Thankfully it was only at the end and I lost 30 lbs within 2 days of leaving the hospital (I had gained 40).

It doesn't have to mean anything bad. Other than being uncomfortable, it could just be some extra water.

How is your water intake? I only ask b/c a lot of times, you retain water when you're dehydrated.

I put on *8* pounds of fluid in one week (week 38) . . . that was right before I was induced (the induction was unplanned). That was the first and only time anyone took me seriously when I complained (and ugly cried) about my weight gain.

I went to the OB this morning and when they weighed me my OB was shocked I had gained 9 lbs in a little over 2 weeks. I am too! I mean, I knew I was swelling but I never thought I had put on that much weight! I was surprised when I saw the scale too but laughed it off. I am 36 weeks tomorrow and am kinda concerned. After she saw that she scheduled a sono which she doesn't normally do.

My BP was really high the first time they took it. They had me re-take it after taking a deep breath and it lowered to high but normal... but I don't walk around all day concentrating on deep breaths! My swelling has kicked up quite a bit all of the sudden but my OB saw me early in the morning when I was hardly swelling at all. I told her that by noon I would be huge but she didn't seem concerned.

She is obviously concerned about the sudden extreme weight gain though... And so am I! She tried to play it off but, ugh... what could cause such a huge jump in such a short amount of time? Even if I had eaten nothing but cake in the last 2 weeks it wouldn't have added 9 lbs all at once!

Any thoughts? She didn't give me any so I am kinda in the dark here... I guess we will know something after the sono next week but still.

Did anybody else experience anything similar maybe?
