@QBbride: Yes, we just kept putting her down for night sleep and then going in if she hadn't settled in 15 mins and doing whatever was necessary to get her to sleep. One night she just went to sleep on her own and we were through it.

Thanks everyone!

Did you just try to put them down every night to test whether they have outgrown this?

We went through exactly the same thing during that wonder week. She never needed to be nursed to sleep and suddenly I had to do it for every nap and at bedtime. She went back to putting herself to sleep after a few weeks. Hope you get through this phase soon!

Thanks ladies! I really hope it's just a phase. My friends have told me this wonder week is an especially difficult one. I'd really like to not have to CIO, we haven't had to so far. Yawn!

Following! B started doing the same thing. He can still self soothe in the middle of the night, but needs to be completely asleep to start the night.

For us it became a bad habit, but I think every baby is different! I would say it's not a problem until it's a problem (i.e. it stops working or you don't want to do it anymore).

It depends on the kid but if your LO could settle themselves to sleep in the past then they can do it again in the future! Personally I found that my LO just needed the sucking action of nursing to wind her wee brain down (particularly when she was hitting developmental milestones).

It went back to normal for us after about 3-4 weeks.... That wonder week was the toughest one for us so far... (LO turns one today).

My 9.5 month old was a decent sleeper, I would put him down drowsy but awake for naps and bedtime and he would fall asleep within 10 minutes. Now everytime I put him down he cries and I have to hold him until he's fast asleep. I don't mind if it's a phase but I don't want it to become a bad habit. He's teething and just starting a wonder week... so is this creating bad habits, or will it go back to normal once he's back to normal?
