I currently work a 7-hour day (8 with lunch) and I would love to have a 6-hour day that was still full-time. I can get my job done in less hours by being more efficient and I wouldn't have to spend as much time in traffic, plus we would have more time together in the afternoons/evenings.

Seriously, if I leave at 4:45 every day, I get home by 5:30. But if I leave at 5:00 (like I have to), I don't get home until 6:00 or 6:15. That extra half hour is magical, so an extra 1.5 hours would be even better.

I often work 6 hour days. I try to work as efficiently as possible and my current work load doesn't account for 40 hours a week. In theory I could take on extra tasks, and sometimes I do but I usually use the extra time for studying and certs

I currently work a 6 hour day (lo is only in daycare until 3) and while I definitely LOVE having more time with her, and my work style is absolutely more focused because it has to be, it's also really hard to get everything I need to do done! And scheduling meetings is a nightmare. Starting next September lo is going to be in daycare til 6 and I'm ready for that now, although on days that I do have to work longer now I get super burned out in the afternoon!

If everyone worked a 6-hour day, that would def be easier...but I'm also in academia where it's totally expected that you're always working anyway, just not necessarily on campus/in the office

@Kemma: Can't agree more!

We waste so much time (I mean hello, I HB all the time at work) b/c we know we have SO much time to do our job (discounting really busy days). But I am confident that at least for myself, I'd work harder and faster since I'm very motivated to be able to go home early.

I can only speak as to my own experiences but my coworkers and I wasted plenty of time over the course of an eight hour day / forty hour week! Society seems to focus on hours worked when it doesn't always relate to being more efficient and getting sh*t done!

I would love a 6 hour workday! I think I could get my work done in that timeframe. Fortunately, I do have a job where they aren't clock watchers and your run your own schedule. Most days I tend to work 7.5 hours and work through lunch so I'm leaving the office by 4. It helps me cope with having DD in daughter knowing I can get out relatively early and spend quality time with her each night.

Well I work on billable hours, so no I can't bill 8 hours in 6 hours lol. (My work is more based on billing to client than completing a certain number of tasks). But if I was allowed to bill 6 hours/day? I think it would be AMAZING. I could work out, I could get more things done around the house, and not be so stressed out all the time!

That would be great, but not sustainable for the company I work for (and many others). Even an 8 hour work day is rare for me. 9 is the norm, with 8, 10, and 11 hour days sprinkled in.

I think that is wonderful for the clients of nursing home. They received such better care. They are definitely on to something.
I remember when the teachers of my state were on furlough because of pay issues and we had NO Fridays for awhile. That was our best testing performance year in a loooong time. Everyone, even teachers, needed a little break. It is a super intense job as well.

I would love this.

I heard about this in the last few weeks and was talking about it with a coworker. We both agreed it would be ideal and if we worked less hours we would work harder. There would probably be a lot less office chit chat and more productivity.

This sounds pretty ideal for parents!

<< Arturo Perez used to come home frazzled from his job as a caregiver at the Svartedalens nursing home. Eight-hour stretches of tending to residents with senility or Alzheimer’s would leave him sapped with little time to spend with his three children.

But life changed when Svartedalens was selected for a Swedish experiment about the future of work. In a bid to improve well-being, employees were switched to a six-hour workday last year with no pay cut. Within a week, Mr. Perez was brimming with energy, and residents said the standard of care was higher.

“What’s good is that we’re happy,” said Mr. Perez, a single father. “And a happy worker is a better worker.” >>

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/21/business/international/in-sweden-an-experiment-turns-shorter-workdays-into-bigger-gains.html

I would love a six-hour work day, but I don't think I could get all of my work done in that time! Would a six-hour work day work for you?
