For comparison, here is a fun and typical day with my almost three year old.

7:30 - my alarm goes off, I go down and take a shower. Bb wakes up and her father comes down to hang out with her.

8 - I dress us, and try to feed her. She's not interested, too sleepy still. I eat and grab an apple for her. I pack a lunch for her too. Feed the pets, take out trash.

8:30 - we get on our big bike and head to a friend's house. Then we all ride over to a little donut shop and meet a group of people. My daughter ends up eating an entire donut and a pot of chobani yogurt for breakfast, so she's uncharacteristically hyper and poorly behaved. Way too much sugar. Fun meetup, though.

11 - we leave the donut shop and head for a park. This one just reopened after being renovated, and we're both just in awe of how great it is now. We run between the fountain and the playground and I eat my apple.

1 - I drag my daughter away to a nearby market because I need a restroom and also because I forgot to bring my own lunch. We sit and eat for a while.

2 - we start the longish ride home, and I get increasingly worried that she'll fall asleep. The last few miles I'm practically begging her to stay awake. She falls asleep right at the end.

3 - get home, let the dogs out, use the restroom. Then we curl up for a nap, which I'm really hoping to take too. Usually I'd just let her sleep on the bike, but I was sleepy. She didn't really want to go back to sleep, but eventuality does.

6:30 - I wake up, stunned that we slept so long. I quickly throw together dinner.

7 - my husband comes home, we all gobble down dinner, then we head back out.

8 - daddy's first indoor soccer game. Since Bb slept so long, we got to go.

9 - Bb is still cheerful, so we stick around for a snack with friends in the adjoining pub.

10 - we leave, because hello it is crazy late.

10:30 - bedtime. Afterwards I water the garden and tidy up. Then my husband and I fold laundry and stay up way too late.

Kind of a funny day, due to that long nap. A good one.

@locavore_mama: hah no, thank god! He's in night school for his MBA. So he's gone usually until 9-9:30 2 or 3 nights/week (last night was actually good he got off early, that is rare!). But the other 2-3 nights he is home by 6:30 or 7.

Dude. I'm exhausted. I forget the infant days. Oh joy. ;)

My daughter was champion 20 minute napper so you're already better off than me. ;)

And does your DH works a 12hr day, every day?? DH works a 11 hr day 2-3x a week and it's no fun.

@Mae: She never used to nap like this! I think from about 2 months until 4.5 months she took 4 cat naps a day! And her night sleep went from 6 hour stretch to every 3 hours until 4.5 months. I think she just went through an epic long 4 month sleep regression, haha. I'm so thankful for sleep now. I take nothing for granted!! :)

@twodoghouse: First of all, you have TWO. I'm just amazed if you have time to pee lol. Also the finding time to actually write it down is hard! We track everything on an app (food, diapers, and sleep) so that makes it a little easier for me to remember and she took an uncharacteristic 1.5 hr nap this morning which was awesome and let me both write that post and also finish editing the engagement session I shot last week-- score!

@abbydabbydoodlebug: lol at first I did not do any housework. But then my husband would get home from work and he'd start doing whatever needed to be done (laundry, dishes, etc) and it annoyed me because I'd spent all day alone with the baby and I just wanted some company, and maybe for him to take her and give me a break. So I realized I'd rather run around and get as much housework as possible done during the day with whatever naps she gives me so that when my husband gets home I get a real break and more time to just hang with him! Also that is awesome your LO naps so well! It's my never ending goal to get LO to nap. Every few days she'll have a great nap day... but mostly we're working with a couple 30 min naps at best. But I figure at 8 weeks, that is just the price I pay for a rock star night sleeper. I hope when she gets older though she'll give me 2-3 good naps a day :)

This is Lily at 5 months...

710am - Wake for day and nurse. Change sopping wet diaper and DH gives her a bath. I use this time to get dressed (shorts and a tshirt, instead of my usual yoga pants/nursing tank because we're having a play date today) and brush teeth, etc. Lily gets dressed and we go downstairs to practice sitting with her boppy cushioning any falls. I get breakfast set up for myself. By this time, she's ready for her morning nap.

830am - Upstairs for sleep routine and she's asleep in her crib by 842. I eat breakfast and catch up online/tv and have my coffee.

930 - She's awake! Short nap, ugh. I leave her until she starts fussing, about 5 minutes. I go up and nurse and bring her downstairs for jumparoo time. We play and I sing Slippery Fish and the Elephant song, which she loves. She starts fussing around 11am, so we go up for another nap.

1117 - Asleep. I finish cleaning/tidying up for our play date who is coming over at 1230. I also grab a PB&J sandwich to hold me over until later.

1230 - Still asleep when play date arrives. My friend and I hang out and chat and play with her son while Lily sleeps another hour. Girlfriend decided she didn't want to hang out with her friend, haha.

1117-120 she nappped. I go up to nurse and bring her down after that, change diaper, and we play with her friend. Well, more like, she sits and watches him crawl around and be silly. He tries to grab her hair and use her to stand up, haha.

230pm - Play date leaves and we clean up until it's time for another nap!

300pm - Lily sleeps while I chug water and grab a really late lunch.

400pm- She's awake, but I leave her in her crib for as long as I can, so she can last until bedtime tonight.

415pm- Go get Lily and nurse again. Change diaper. Play until...

5pm when it's time for solids! We are trying butternut squash for the first time today. Get the cube out of the freezer and nuke it. She eats almost the entire portion! A first! I start dinner cooking on the stove

530pm- DH gets home from work and takes over while I finish dinner. She's getting fussy, so I pop a paci in her mouth.

615pm - Dinner is pretty much done, but Lily is looking super tired, so we get milk that I pumped last night out of the fridge to warm it. After her bottle we head upstairs...

620- Fresh diaper, diaper cream, pajamas and then sleep routine.

645 - Asleep! She stirs at 730, but settles back to sleep. She wakes at 10pm (right when we are going to sleep) and is crying, but we let her cry a little bit and she falls back asleep after 10 minutes and sleeps until 2am! This is an awesome night for us.

630-930 - DH and I eat dinner, clean up, and watch American Ninja Warrior. I take a shower at 8 and pump at 830 for a bottle the next day. We go up to get ready for bed at 930 this night.

2-230 - Nurse. She doesn't fall asleep nursing, so I put her in her crib and I go back to bed. She falls asleep somewhere between 3-310am.

630am - Awake and fussing. I go in to nurse and I'm not getting up this early (haha), so I put her back in her crib. She falls asleep at 715.

800am. Awake for day!

And the cycle continues.... :)

@Mae: Can I just say how impressed I am of how much housework you get done!? Haha. At 8 weeks, I did no where near as much house work as you. Hell, she's 5 months and I STILL make my DH do all the dishes, haha.

I should do a day in the life....

Um I am so jealous of your day. I feel like we've started to get a little routine but it sure as heck does not involve doing laundry or anything like that, haha! I've been wanting to do a day in the life with twins just so I can remember what it was like at this point. I'll share it if I manage it one day!!

I don't know if anyone else will have the patience for this... but I decided to do a day in the life post on my blog so that I could remember what my life looked like when my daughter was 8 weeks old. I thought it'd be fun if other people would like to post theirs, because it would be interesting to see how other people spend their days! I'll start!

2:30am- Fiona starts fussing. I think she probably needs to eat so I get up and go to the bathroom before grabbing her…. but by the time I’m done 3 minutes later she is back to sleep. So I go back to bed.

4:30am- Fiona starts fussing. I think she is hungry, and this is a normal wake-up time for her. I get up and put my glasses on, take my water over to my nursing glider on the other side of our room and turn the TV on (I just leave it on the netflix homepage so I have enough light to nurse without waking B up). By the time I get back to her crib 3 minutes later, she is asleep. I leave my glasses on and lay back down and leave the TV on, sure she’ll be up in another 5 minutes but…

5:20am- I wake up to Fiona fussing again. This time I grab her right away because I’m tired of this up and down nonsense. Unswaddle her, and nurse her on one side. Change her diaper, reswaddle her, and try to nurse the second side but she’s fallen back asleep and won’t nurse. So I put her back down in her pack n play and head downstairs to pump. The cat puked on the carpet so I clean that up. Then pump. Then back to bed.

7:45am- Fiona wakes up crying and B gets up with her and lets me sleep a little more.

8:15am- I wake up to Fiona crying. Brian is in the shower so I get up and grab her and take her downstairs. Diaper change, and nurse her. Then I feed her the milk I pumped earlier that morning. We play around for a little bit chatting and singing (more me than her). I ask B to throw a load of whites in the wash.

10am- She starts looking tired. I change her diaper and put her in her swing (she hates being rocked to sleep.. weirdo haha). She falls asleep at 10:20 and I grab a muffin and some coffee and get online to chill out for hopefully an hour…

10:44am- She’s up! I try to calm her back down to sleep for a bit longer but I fail. I get her up and we play a bit more. 11:15 diaper change.

11:45am- She’s hungry so I nurse her, then feed her some more pumped milk. Changed her diaper again at 12:15 and 12:30 (she loves waiting until I change her diaper then pooping right after! She’s clearly tired so I try calming her down a bit and get her into the swing and asleep.

1pm- She just fell asleep in her swing. I run upstairs and throw all the dishes I’ve made so far in the sink. The dishwasher is full of clean dishes and I don’t have time to unload them. I quickly run and clean the half bath because someone is stopping by later. I grab some cheese and crackers and a pluot to eat for lunch. Fast food is important because I never know how long I’ll have. Hopefully an hour? (An hour seems to be the amount of time it takes for her to be really well rested and happy). I sit down to eat and hop on my computer again for a break.

1:35pm- She’s up! Damn. Not that she’s not cute, but I know she’s still tired. I can’t get her to sleep any more. Oh well… time for a bath! I throw the whites in the dryer then I try out a new bathtub that allows her to actually sit in a tiny bit of water, rather than just the sponge bath chair I’d been using. She freaks the hell out and it takes 10 minutes to calm her down and convince her I was not trying to drown her– poor baby! She also pees on our bed. She gets a sponge bath and then into the pack n play so I can strip our bed and throw the linens in the wash. I get her dressed and we head downstairs.

2:20pm- Time to nurse again! Then supplement with formula. Another diaper change, and another 15 minutes after that. Right as I’m changing the second diaper my guest stops by. We chat for about 10 minutes then Fia is clearly getting tired so I put her down for another nap at 3:35pm. I visit with my guest for another half an hour then walk her out to her car in our driveway. By the time I come back in..

4:05- she’s up! Another 30 min nap, sigh. I run up and throw the sheets in the dryer. We nurse again, and I try to supplement her but she doesn’t want any formula. Diaper change. I try to put her back down for a nap but she is not having it. We head upstairs and I put her in her pack in play to watch her fan (a favorite game) and I make the bed. Then I put her on the bed and fold the load of whites we’d washed earlier that day (I’ve never in my life been so caught up on laundry– she LOVES hanging out on our bed watching the fan so I try to do laundry every day so I have something to fold). Another diaper change. I try rocking her, I try her bouncer, I try the swing… homegirl will. not. nap.

6:30pm- I give up on her trying to nap because at least she is pretty happy in her bouncer and I’m out of ideas after an hour of trying. I make myself a turkey sandwich really fast and eat it while bouncing her in her bouncer.

7pm- She falls asleep right as I’m about to feed her. Of course! But she needs the sleep so I let her go. I run upstairs and unload the dishwasher, reload it with the day’s dishes, and tidy up a bit from the day’s chaos. I also toss the day’s cloth diapers in the wash.

7:25pm- she’s up! Diaper change, diaper change, and nursing. Supplement with formula.

8:30pm- B texts that he is on his way home. I throw a frozen pizza in the oven for him. Diaper change. Turn cloth diapers on for their second cycle. She’s happy but doesn’t want to be set down so I just hold her and we sing songs. She’s a big fan of James Taylor and Johnny Cash (me too).

8:50pm- B is home and we hang out a little bit while he eats. She starts looking tired so..

9:15pm- I head upstairs with her to nurse her to sleep. Nurse one side, change her, swaddle her, nurse the other side. She falls asleep while nursing, so I put her down in her pack n play.

9:40pm- I head downstairs and turn on the monitor to watch her, and start washing all the day’s bottles. B comes upstairs and takes over the bottle washing and I start unpacking some of the stuff my friend had brought over (hand me downs) earlier in the day. She wakes up so I head upstairs and shush her back to sleep.

10pm- We head downstairs and watch half an episode of ninja warrior and chat while I send a few emails for my photo business.

10:40pm- Pump! At least I can do it while watching TV.

11pm- Bed time for B and I. I get my stuff ready for the night (motrin, water, protein bar) and he hangs up the cloth diapers to dry. Then to bed we go and we’re out in approximately 14 seconds…
