I really think that the book idea is awesome. I also think that it would be a great way to get her older daughter involved too.

Sprinkles are always good for baby #2s! I went to one and on the invite we were asked to bring books for the baby!

My friend threw me a small get together. I was unsure about having one with my fourth. There was some family drama going on and I just didn't want to have to put on a smiley face with some of them around. She had a few friends and I go out for coffee and then we went to a super cute book store. It was totally like the book store in You've got mail. (not like a borders or barnes and nobel)

Each friend bought me one or two books. Some were for my three boys and some were for my new baby girl that was coming. I loved it. It was a perfect afternoon with my close friends and I always love getting new books.

My shower was actually a cocktail party, we had 8-10 couples that are really important to us over at my mothers house, we had lots of drinks, punch, and delicious food. My sister organized it and it was an "OH BABY, Cocktails!" theme. It started at 5:30pm, I tapped out at midnight, some of the guys were still going until 3am!

I like the idea of brunch. Books are good, as well. People could even bring used books and not have to spend any money!

I second the book idea. You can get books pretty cheap, so she won't feel bad about people spending money. And you can just do a casual brunch or luncheon so there's not too much pressure.

@chrispygal: I thought about a diaper theme, but I want it to be a surprise and I don't remember what kind of diapers she uses. I feel like she's picky. Girls night out would be fun though.

@Cole: Love the book idea, thanks!

What about a brunch and people could bring books for the new baby? You could set out book plates and let people write messages to the baby to put in the books. It could be a sweet, low key way to celebrate the new baby.

How about just a girl's night out or a diaper-themed sprinkle? Diapers can always be used!

My friend is pregnant with #2. She doesn't want a shower because she has everything she needs, especially because she's having the same gender. And she doesn't want a meet the baby party because it seems like too much work with a newborn. But she feels bad that she's not having anything because she feels like the baby will feel like she didn't care enough to have a party to celebrate her. Which obviously isn't true and I don't agree with that.... but that's how she feels and you can't tell someone how to feel.

My friends threw me a little mini shower at a pottery painting place. We each picked something out to paint for my LO, and it was super fun and cute. But this girl would not appreciate something like that. She's a perfectionist and if things aren't perfect she doesn't want them..... and of course people can't all paint perfectly.

So I'm looking for other ideas to celebrate the new baby. Any ideas?
