@BrentLee88: just wanted to point out, you start counting from the first day you got your period. So if you got it Tuesday, that was day 1, and you should start using OPKs on day 10, which will be next Thursday (the 28th)

@BrentLee88: Sure, no problem. Glad we can be of some help. I remember reading websites explaining our cycles and it can be confusing. If you are interested, you should buy or borrow the book TCOYF (Taking Charge of Your Fertility), it can really help explain it all.

@BrentLee88: Oh, ok. Yeah, start counting on your first day of your period.

As for length of flow, my flow is pretty short. I can have 3-5 day flows. I told my doctor about my short flows and she didn't seem worried. Well, I'm not pregnant yet so I don't know if it is 'normal'.

@BrentLee88: Reading back through your first comment, it seems like you might be talking about how long your flow is. So if your period started on Tuesday (day 1) and ended on Friday (Day 4), then you should start using OPKs on Thursday (day 10).

@Rubies: okay think i understand so new at all this stuff! eh... what i meant to ask is it normal to have a period for 4 days,when i usually have a period for 6-7 days? and if so, since i ended my period today, do i start counting from today until day 13 to take start taking ovulation tests? my cycle length is 28 days usually.

@Rubies: I agree.

Except sense you are new to ttc I would start opks a few days earlier like day 10. I have cycles between 26-28 days I have ovulated as early as day 10. Once you know how long your cycles are and what day you violated on then you can cut back & test around your o day every month. o day is based on what cycle day your on. That way your only using a couple sticks instead of a weeks worth.

I agree with the others, I'm also confused. A full cycle is about 28-32 days. (Mine are usually 33, which I heard is normal).

The day you get your period is day 1, then count off from there. You can ovulated around day 14... but it can be earlier or later. It can be later if you are dealing with a lot of stress that month. Anyway, for OPKs, my dr told me to start testing around day 10 so you can get the surge in LH. After you O which is about 12-24 hours after you get an positive OPK, it is then followed by your luteal phase. A normal luteal phase is about 14 days. [In the TTC journey, the luteal phase is also known as the TWW (Two week wait).] At which point, your period show up again (if you are not pregnant). So based on a normal 14 days til ovulation plus a 14 day luteal phase, it equals 28 days. So from period to period, your cycle should be between 28-32 days. Hope this helps.

Okay, so I think there is a little bit of mix up in the terminology that you're using. A cycle is from the first day of your period to the day of your next period. Therefore, for most women, a cycle is approximately 28-32 days. The first day of your period is considered to be "Cycle Day 1" and if your monthly cycle is relatively normal, then I'd start using the OPKs on cycle day #13. Do you get what I'm saying? If not, I can clarify!

Wait, I'm confused. Your whole cycle from start of AF to next AF is 7 days?
