The best time to drink alcohol is actually while you are breastfeeding. My midwife actually suggested that I start my glass of wine whilst feeding as it wouldn't hit the bloodstream that quickly and would be gone by the time the next feed came around. I did use a bottle of expressed milk for the first feed post-drink in the early weeks but now I don't bother. At the beginning I was just too pooped to think about it. My doula LC and Dr all gave me the same info, if you are safe to drive you are safe to nurse. My midwife said a glass of milk in the first few days would help with milk production and letdown; and also help calm my jitters from giving birth/being a new mom... I bought a white wine called gerwurtztraminer (or something like that) and in German it means mothers milk haha :):). Anyway - I am in the camp that it is totally okay while EBF - even in the early days. The rate of transfer is so low I doubt it makes much of a difference.
