When I was pregnant, I just assumed my baby would be healthy and perfect...and she's perfect in my eyes, but when she was born, I noticed one of her eyes looked different. The eye issue, coupled with my prenatal fluid issues (potential renal issues) and her heart murmur meant we had to spend a lot of time at the children's hospital having tests done! Luckily, she's been ruled 100% healthy!

I have had complicated pregnancies with my DDs -abruption of the placenta with a 3 week NICU stay, and a large SCH with #2 (and then a MC). Having a healthy pregnacy this time around is such a blessing and I am thankful everyday that everything has gone as smoothly as it has.

It is a huge, huge blessing to have healthy kids.

So true! I've been reminded of that here a lot recently. A lady that I work with just lost her baby at 5 months old to a genetic disorder, and another co-worker had her baby early (30ish weeks) and she has a VERY long and difficult road ahead of her. It really puts the little "problems" LO has into perspective...

That's so true! Just to get from sperm and egg to a baby is a series of hurdles, like the hardest assault course ever. Then add to that the risk of miscarriage - then all the challenges babies can be born with - holes in their heart, genetic defects, diabetes, all kind of issues.... a healthy baby is a down right miracle!!

Yes, you are! It seems like there are so many things that can go wrong; I just keep telling myself that worrying about it isn't going to help!

Now that more people around me are having their first and second (and third, and fourth, and even a fifth!) babies, I'm starting to hear about really devastating birth defects and abnormalities. It makes me feel really stupid about complaining about the little things. My babies are so healthy, their biggest problem is being too fat for their clothes.

I said it once, I'll say it a million and one times... a healthy baby is a miracle. I mean, all babies are miracles, of course, but to not have to worry about massive health problems is an incredible blessing. I'm a lucky, lucky momma.
