I probably would, but something small, like a bottle of wine (I always think you should take something like that to peoples' houses anyway) and maybe ssomething small and personal and wedding related... My friend gave us a 'just married' lucky horseshoe at our blessing, and I thought that was a nice touch...

I always do a shower gift and wedding gift. They're 2 separate events, in my mind.. And we almost always do a $100 gift for a shower and $100+ for a wedding, so I think my husband just thinks that's too much for this particular event. Thanks for the suggestions!

I like the suggestion of wine and a card. That's what I would bring.

I'd bring something, but much smaller than if I went to the wedding-- like nice wine or olive oil or I like the suggestion of the gift card to a local restaurant.

I also always do a shower gift and a wedding gift.

I think you should give something but not a nice fancy gift. What about a card and a $25 or $50 gift card to one if their favorite places to eat. I know I give a gift at a shower, and then DH and I give a card with cash in it at the wedding, that's why I voted other.

I voted yes but should've finished reading first. I'm as bad as my students! Since it's so casual a reception I would either bring them a really small gift or a card. Maybe a nice bottle of champagne?

I agree, a nice card and a bottle or passes to a movie should be more than enough.

I was thinking probably up until you said it was a casual BBQ they are asking you to bring ice to. I think a gift would be lovely, but totally not necessary. I like the previously mentioned wine ideas!

@bree72: I think if I had all the money in the world I'd give each couple a large monetary gift for their wedding but if you can't do that, it's appropriate to give in accordance with how fancy the wedding is. I don't feel right if a couple is spending $50/head on food alone for a fancy wedding coming in with a tiny gift, but for a BBQ, I think that's thoughtful and sweet, right?

We had a very small wedding and a casual party after for family in my home state, and most people got us small gifts like that. I really appreciated it!

I want to get married again... I miss the gift cards! HAHA!

I think a gift is appropriate, because normally you bring a gift to a shower and then a wedding for a couple. But because this is very casual I think the gift can be more casual too, like nice wine or a card with a date night type gift card (which I actually really appreciated after the wedding, a chance to go to a movie or a nice dinner!)

I think a bottle of wine and a card is a good idea I feel like its wierd not to bring anything. My husband says that we're bringing ice, so we're good. He's so funny.

If you really wanted to do a gift, I'd take a bottle of wine or something inexpensive like that. I think it's a bit over the top to have 3+ receptions after a destination wedding... I could understand maybe one in his hometown and one in her hometown if they were from opposite sides of the country but 3+ seems a bit excessive.

And you already bought them a gift.

I would take a card. Since you already gifted them at the shower I wouldn't expect another gift, even if it was their actual wedding. That's just me though.

We are attending a "reception" for friends that got married back in December. They had a destination wedding, and have had 2 other "receptions" with different groups of people since then. We attended one of their like 6 showers in Decmeber and got them a very nice gift then. I didn't attend one of the other showers that I was invited to.

The question is whether or not to bring a gift for the reception? I say yes because it's a reception, but my husband says absolutely not, it's ridiculous 3 months later they're still doing wedding crap and we already got them a gift.

What would you do? The reception isn't fancy; just a BBQ at their house with friends. It's casual enough that they're asking us to bring the coolers of ice, just for reference.
