I like the idea, but I'd want to know how they handle a few things, like illness (mostly in the children) and dealing with difficult subjects like memory loss and death with the children. I don't see how the standard no fever/vomiting/diarrhea requirements of most preschools would work in this setting, because a runny nose or a cough could easily escalate to something catastrophic for the older generation. Maybe they send children home or "quarantine" them in their classrooms for runny noses or coughs? I could see a policy like that being rough on the parents and/or the children, but I'm not sure how else you could protect the adults.

As for talking about heavy subjects like death, I tend to think this is something I want to be the one to guide my child through, especially the first time that it involves someone he's close to. I'm not sure how that would go if the person who died was someone he had a relationship with but I did not.

Again, I like the sentiment behind the school. I try to make sure my LO interacts with people of all ages and I think it's sad that we have set up society in such a heavily age-segregated way, pretty much from birth to death. That does need to be changed in my opinion, and this school seems to be a positive step in the right direction.

I love everything about this! I would definitely do this, but there are no options in my area

There are so many benefits for older adults as well as children.

@HTownMom: I agree so much. My great grandparents were in a nursing home and they had many grandchildren visit and it was sad and sweet how many residents were excited to see us.

@babynumber1: @MrsB2012: I posted this on my Facebook account and a few mom's commented they wouldn't do it because of weak immune systems in both children and the elderly. Any thoughts or discussion on that when your facility was looking into it? It didn't even occur to me, but it seems it would be more of an issue for the elderly than the children.

I saw this video a few days ago and absolutely loved it. As a nurse who works in a long term care facility, I know this would be absolutely amazing. Our residents absolutely love it when staff bring in their babies! Apparently they were looking at putting a daycare in for staff when they opened a few years ago but there wasn't enough interest. Staff brought it up last year or so to see if we could open one now, but there isn't enough room or something anymore.

My LO's daycare shares a building with an assisted living, and the residents love to sit in front of the building during drop off and pick up times and say hi to the kiddos! I know they occasionally do things together, but there are no regular events (and none since LO started). I love this article, and I'd love it if the could do more interacting.

As a nursing home social worker, I think this is wonderful! I wish we had a daycare on campus, sadly a few years ago there was not enough interest to open one for employees. Our residents love when I bring LO in.

@Tanjowen: I saw this the other day and got so teary-eyed! Both of my grandfathers are in homes like this and it's so hard to see all the lonely people in the hallways without a life purpose! I think this is such an amazing idea and really great to help pass on to the younger generation the wealth of life! It's truly amazing what togetherness can bring!

The preview is beautiful:

http://www.cnn.com/2015/06/19/living/preschool-nursing-home-seattle/index.html

Would you put your LO in a preschool like this? I immediately did a search and sadly, none anywhere close to us. I grew up visiting local nursing homes with my church group and have a lot of memories visiting with the residents.
