@Legowife: It's so hard. I am glad the doctor is taking it seriously though. Hoping it really is just viral. I need to stay away from Dr Google.

@MrsLonghorn: I wonder if that's what this is. It SO bizarre that he is basically acting normal other than the long bouts of sleeping. Doctor said if we go into 8 days of fever (tomorrow is day 7) it will be treated as fever of unknown origin and will prompt more testing

something similar is going around our area, and a mom friend in a different state is mentioned the same thing today.

Last week, DS had a 102.6 Monday-Thursday, then a 101.5 on Friday, then was fine. As soon as I got motrin into him, he was totally happy and playing, but he was very cuddly for the time that his fever was creeping up pre-medicine.

Pediatricain said is is a mystery virus that is going around, and that 102.6 was lucky - many kids were coming in with 104-105 fevers. They all last about 5 days and go away.

ETA: tested negative for flu, and ears and throat both looked fine. He had RSV a few weeks prior so they didn't bother testing again - and the symptoms were totally different than rsv was anyway

We went through this too on more than one occasion and it was a virus (once rsv and twice the flu). It's hard as a parent but your doctor sounds great and not dismissive like some can be. Hang in there though I know it's hard

Thanks ladies. Fever just spiked to 104.6 after nap talked to the doctor and blood tests makes her think virus but the spike in fever worried her a bit she wants us to watch through tonight and call tomorrow AM unless things get worse tonight. Extremely nervous and horrible at the waiting game.

My 3.5 year old had a mystery fever for 6 days in January. His wasn't low grade - bounced around in the 102-103 range. We were at the doctor 3 times and they did throat culture, urine and flu tests. Everything was negative and they just said it had to be viral. If it lasted one more day, they were going to do a chest x-ray to rule out hidden pneumonia, but thankfully on the 6th day, it went away as randomly as it had come. Good luck!

I took DS to the doctor today as he's been running a low grade fever for the last 6 days. It's been between 100-101.5 since last Wednesday morning but seems to get a bit higher every day and no other symptoms other than sleeping a ton. Doctor is stumped but ordered a urine sample and blood test. I'm trying to be calm but I am a little freaked out. Anyone have this experience before? Waiting for the test results and trying to ease my mind.
