Nights 4-5 are classic regression nights in sleep training, and doesn't mean it's not working, it's just their processing of it all. They are testing the new world order, so to speak. Happened to our kids too....even DD who sttn after night 1!

@hilsy85: hmm. So if he is a tension increaser should I stop? I've tried doing gentler ways and it doesn't work for him either. Should I just stick it out a while longer? I don't mind some crying I just expected it to be much shorter by this point :(

Some crying is normal for some babies. This kind of explains it:

@sylvie_b: that's what I'm wondering too. Wednesday he was up 5 hours before bed and that's when he put himself to sleep quickly. I tried the 5 hours tonight and well it was a fail haha. I've read the sleep easy solution too! Maybe I should glance at it again!

@lolabee: thanks! It's so hard because DH and I really miss him being in our bed, but he sleeps so much better in his crib after he actually falls asleep. I never thought I would miss the co bedding but I really do!

not sure if this is the same with your LO - i know that with our little guy, if we put him to bed even a few minutes past his ideal bedtime (ie, he's overtired), the big crocodile tears will fall and he will CRY CRY CRY. if we get him down before that (before the eye rubbing, ear pulling, yawning), he puts himself to sleep no problem. :)

ps - we sleep trained our DS a month ago (he was 4.5 months) and used the sleepeasy solution.

DS is 9 months and we have been co-bedding until now. We started sleep training in his crib last week. He is still crying a ton when I put him down. Tonight was 40 mins :( Day 3 it was only 5 mins of crying so I thought we were in the clear. However he has pretty much been STTN when before he woke every hour or two.

We are doing ferber so we are doing checks. I've had to change his diaper a few nights on the first check because he has pooped.

Do you think he just hasn't figured out how to self soothe? Will it take him longer because it is such a big change? He sleeps so much better at night and is much happier during the day so I feel like we shouldn't move him back to our bed because of this.
