@beesknees: I do have one of those! I need to get a valve for it, then I should rally stash it in my car.

@grizz: Except it's not :\ We're a small company and, therefore, exempt from the federal legislation re: pumping at work. And Pennsylvania doesn't have state laws making employers give you a lunch or break time. She lets me pump, but I work the front desk at a hotel and have to wait on customers when they come up. I was putting my sign up to give myself 15 minutes at a time (people still ring my bell with the sign up, but not as often as if it wasn't up), but she came in on a day I was doing that and told me I'm not allowed. I shared my concerns with our district manager who also said I'm not allowed to do that. So yeah, I've been over and under it and they pretty much have the right to refuse me, so I'm just on the search for better employment - this isn't what I have my degree in anyway. And will definitely be looking at any new company's policy on maternity leave and all that jazz, something I've never concerned myself with before! lol

Can you run out and buy a hand pump? Those little pumps are awesome. I highly recommend the Medela one, (harmony?) its $30. Very discreet. would be good for you to keep at work or in the car- just for these instances.

I used the hand pump exclusively (didn't need to pump every day just enough to build up a stash). used it for 18 months. Worked great.

Yeah, I definitely foresee "uncomfortable" in my future, haha. I think I will just go to the bathroom and hand express, instead of trying to express into the storage bottles to save any. It'll probably be too messy and bothersome. And that way I can get away with putting up my "be back in a moment" sign and hiding out in the bathroom for awhile to do it (something I was recently told I'm not allowed to do while pumping and sealed the deal on sending out my resume!). Mastitis and affecting my supply were my biggest concerns, but yeah, I can feed him as soon as I get home and pump on top of that.

I would definitely plan to hand express in the bathroom--I imagine you will be pretty uncomfortable by the 6/7 hour mark. I don't think you need to worry about mastitis as long as its a 1 time thing and you nurse when you get home, and hand express during the day. I also don't think it will affect your supply negatively.

So I'm at work and forgot the motor to my pump at home. I had done this once before and had a complete melt down at work (lack of sleep + super busy day at work + manager not being supportive and letting me have an uninterrupted break to pump + no freezer stash = emotional breakdown). But LO slept GREAT last night (fell asleep at 5:30pm, woke up at 3am to feed, then right back to sleep until I woke him up to eat before leaving) and I'm in a much better place, emotionally, than that day! Thankfully, I was able to have someone bring me the pump that day, but there's no way for me to get the pump today.

So, I'm going to have to go 8 hours without it. Well, I guess it'll technically be 9 hours since feeding him before leaving until feeding him when I get back home. I have a freezer stash, so I'm not worried about that, but how will going 8 hours affect my supply? Should I worry about getting an infection? I can try to hand express as much as possible. The longest I've gone without pumping or feeding has been 5 hours.
