I used them all. A&A to drape over car seat to block sun / strangers. For sleep we used eveything -- woombie and halo and swaddleme and wrapsacks. I got them all 2nd hand which is why the variety. I prefered the easiness of the zippered woombies and the transition abilities of the wrapsacks (arms in or out.)

Swaddles don't really increase SIDS risk unless they're rolling or put down on their side / back. Being an exhausted mom with an cranky overtired baby is much more of an issue.

LO didn't like the swaddle at first but within 2-3 weeks he would settle right down after 1-3 min of fussing.

I held off on buying Woombie-like infant swaddlers due to an increased SIDS risk. My hospital only blanket swaddled from the chest down, again because of SIDS. Even without the safety risk my LO would fuss for free movement of his arms and hands and when wrapped too tight he wanted his legs freer too. The A&A blankets were too large for us to continue the chest down swaddlinf at home the right way. They have been great to have handy though. We just have two sets: I prefer the feel and drape of the softer bamboo ones, but the muslin ones have the cooler patterns.

I really like the A&A swaddles. DH loves swaddling and they're so lightweight they're easy to pack. I used them for thin blankets, nursing cover, place to lay baby.

In general I think you're on the right track, except we strongly preferred the Miracle Blanket instead of the Halo. Miracle Blanket was the only thing that worked for her after she (very quickly) started busting her arm up through the neckhole of the Woombie. We never got in the habit of putting her in sleep sacks - she was very easily able to get her arms out of the Halo.

We absolutely loved the Woombie, or similar off-brand products! SO much easier than blankets or the velcro ones. Especially when your'e still changing a diaper at night. We used them nightly until he started rolling, when we had to ditch the swaddle, we moved to a sleep sac. .

Personally, I think I'm the only person in the world that thinks the A&A blankets are totally overrated. We were gifted a million blankets of all kinds and we just used whatever was lying around for general covering the baby.

@bluestriped bee: I actually have Zipadeezip on my registry, but since it's so roomy, I am thinking of it for an older baby.

Okay, judging from these comments, it looks like I'm on the right track (of course, depending on if baby even likes to be swaddled).

Woombie, then Halo, then ZipadeeZip with A&A being a kind of "all-purpose" item. =D

Thanks to everyone for their input!!

We used Muslim swaddles. Then the summer infant Velcro ones until about 4 months. Then switched to swaddling in that with arms out. Then a sleep sack. He is still in a sleep sack and is 2!

I don't have the A&A swaddle but i do have swaddle blankets and they are great. I used them to swaddle and now just regular blankets now that they don't need to be swaddled.

As for the woobie, they have a bunch of sizes, so it's not only for newborn. I actually liked the woobie. My babies liked it, too.

As for the halo, halo makes A LOT of sleepsacks, swaddles and a bunch of other things related to sleep. Not sure which one you have on your registry. There's the one that are swaddles (hands in) and the one with holes so they can put their hands out.

My babies are almost 10 months and I have used these during the swaddle phase (0-4/5 months)...
A&A Swaddle blankets
Woombie
Halo swaddle

Once they started rolling over (5 months to 7 months ish), I switched them to Merlin's sleep suit and then the zipadeezip. The Zipadeezip helped my son not scratch his face up.

Once they were older and could pull themselves up it the crib, they preferred their hands out and now I use the sleep sacks at 10 months.

Oh, it depends on the climate, too. We stopped using the zipadeezip because it was summer and our house does not have AC so we had to use fans during the heat waves.

Oh, merlin's sleep sac and zipadeezip are pricey new, but I bought them used and I plan to sell them soon.

Every baby is so different in regards to swaddling. My daughter refused to be swaddled, so we didn't really try beyond the first few days. She slept great without them. Muslin swaddle blankets have so many other uses though. We still use them daily at 10 months.

It's so hard cause every baby is different! I had SO many different kinds and ended up returning most of it. For one, DD never used sleep sacks. We had her in the regular velcro fleece swaddle me's since she was born in Dec in the NE. Then we went to a merlin sleep suit b/c the woombie, etc just wasn't "free" enough. Then we just went to nothing. She didn't even like the zipadeezip that's oh so popular.

disclaimer: i am a HUGE swaddle fan

I started with the a&a swaddle blankets but by about 2 months he could break out, so we moved to the miracle blanket swaddle (still used the a&a's for sun shades, etc.) then when he started turning over, we started weaning off the swaddle into the sleep sack using the woombie.

SO, I think you should get all 3, but maybe in different sizes.

We almost exclusively used the A&A blankets with our son, but with our daughter we almost exclusively used the Halo sleepsack swaddle. I never re-perfected my A&A swaddle so she broke out of them constantly. I also read a lot about hip issues being a concern with really tight swaddles, so I was worried about swaddling her too tightly with the A&A blankets (probably a big part of why she always broke out of them). The Halo was just easier, quicker, and she still had free movement of her hips.

ETA: I still use the A&A blankets, though, so they're worth the investment even if you don't use them for swaddling!

It can be hard to know what your baby will like (or what you will prefer) so you may actually want to get a couple. We used the Halo swaddles from birth until she could roll over. We never tried the woombie but it looks like a cool idea. The only complaint I had about the Halo swaddles were that they were velcro, so they were noisy to open up at night.

I also tried to use A&A swaddles but I was pretty bad at swaddling and the Halos were just so much easier. The A&As still definitely ended up being worth it though. We used them as nursing covers or a cover for the stroller/carseat, and once she turned 1, she started using them as light blankets. She's almost 3 now and still sleeps with them.

In general, I think some babies either like to be swaddled or they don't. Some are stronger and more Houdini-like than others, and can easily break free from the swaddle blankets or even special swaddles. Personally, I could never get a tight wrap using just a blanket. We used both the Halo and the Woombie that you posted links to-either one of them can be used with a newborn or an older infant. They come in various sizes. I liked the Woombie a lot but honestly I think swaddles are one of those things that you have to try for yourself. I bought a good amount of swaddles, using them only a few times, before I found a brand or two that I liked. (Lot of $$, but good thing is I sold a lot of them on HB!)

So, when I first made my registry, I put all three of these on.

My guess is that I don't need all of them. For swaddling, I've heard just using regular swaddle blankets that should be enough, but babies can sometimes "break out".

So is the Woombie for newborns and the Halo sleepsack for infants? And the A&A swaddles are just general use?

These are the ones I'm looking at:
