I got the clear from my midwife to workout, but I never asked about the separation--I will!

From what I'm reading about it, you're supposed to avoid traditional ab exercises--anything that puts too much stress on the abs and back.

@WALLAROO: I will look into planks.

I don't have experience with this but could you do planks?

Maybe ask your docs about it? My doc checked my abs and gave me the okay to work out.

@Mrsdaredevil: I just Googled it and found a DVD from BeFit-Mom that is supposed to specifically address this. I have no idea if it will work but I'm desperate. It feels sooooo weird.

I was trying to do crunches and placed my hand on my abdomen and realized I have abdominal separation or diastasis recti. I can fit 4 fingers (!!!) between my left and right ab muscles. I realized I can't do crunches anyway because it still kind of hurts my C-section incision area...but I'm trying to figure out what I can do and a lot of my go-to ab exercises are out because of the ab separation.

Did/does anyone else have this? If so, what exercises are you doing to help decrease the separation and get your abs back in shape?
