At my CPA firm, it's first in first out and so it just really depends how many people are ahead of you. Also, C corps and S corps are due March 15th so most of our manpower is focused on those, then we shift to partnerships and individuals once march 15th passes. There are still some people that focus on individuals from the start but not a huge amount of manpower.

@MrsBrewer: Not if you go to a CPA firm. If you go to HR Block, or one of those places they will do same day.

@Mrs.Hawk71: That's taking a long time! I always thought that when you bring in your stuff for taxes that they process them all right away!

My guess is that they have a bunch of tax returns and that is their normal timeline for processing returns. In theory, your return should take less than a day to prepare, review and assemble.

I heard on the news today that the IRS still hasn't finished putting together all the forms yet that filers need in order to file their taxes. Maybe one of these forms isn't available for you?

Have you tried calling them to find out what's taking so long?

My husband and I met with my accountant on the 8th of February to file our taxes. I am self employed and he just pretty much has a w-2. Very simple. In the past it has always been so easy, to go in and file at H&R block and know what were getting back and filed with in the hour. This year i don't know what is going on... its almost been two weeks and were still waiting to know what our return will be and when we will need to come sign off on them. Any idea as to why this is taking so long?
