I'm currently 33 weeks pregnant and I got a false positive on our NIPT, we didn't terminate the pregnancy based on the blood work, but I carried the pregnancy for another 6 weeks for an amino. The amino came back that the baby was completely healthy, but the NIPT results really took a huge toll on us. Everybody we spoke to prior to our amino kept telling us that the accuracy rate was really high, even our genetic counselor and the doctor (thank God, she's not my OB) that performed our amino told us to be ready to terminate the pregnancy since there was such a low chance for it to be wrong.

The dr who ordered my harmony test kept repeating that it was not diagnostic, and it is actually not that accurate if you are under 35, but I wanted the test regardless. We 100% would have had additional testing before doing anything. She kept saying to us "if the results come back as high risk, please do not run out and get an abortion". I was shocked she said that, but I think maybe many women do not understand the test well and the dr doesn't explain it that great.

My doctor also let me know up front that the tests only determine risk as opposed to diagnosing. Seems odd that the doctor had to call them back to tell them to hold off on the abortion instead of saying it up front when delivering the results. Also, even if my doctor was not up front, I would be a person to take a little time to look into everything, possibly get a second opinion, before making such a final decision. It is sort of horrifying to think of how many women have possibly aborted their babies based on false information.

They kept saying that the test came back positive but it isn't diagnostic- there's no positive or negative! Just risk numbers! So if that's what the doctor told them, that's on the doctor, not the test.

I can't watch the video at work but based on the tagline I'm assuming a couple almost aborted based on a false positive. My husband and I absolutely just viewed the prescreening as additional knowledge. If the results showed risked factors we would have followed up with more specific testing like a CVS or Amnio before making any decisions.

My doc also told me that the genetic screening blood test is more accurate the older you are which was interesting to me.

Just saw this story. I did the Harmony test which came back fine, but if I got a high risk marker I would definitely do more testing before making any decisions. my doctors set that expectation up front as well.
