We kept a notebook of everything she ate to try and pinpoint a trigger (we still haven't compeltely figured it out but learned a few things.) We found that baby yogurt, was a huge no for us, but cheese was fine (she's not allergic to milk we had her tested) And a few mixes didn't work, now that we have moved to finger foods over purees she seems to be getting better, it's crazy. We still haven't been able to find her "true triggers" but writing everything down does help to see if you find a pattern (with apples or carrots, ect.)

@LuLu Mom: thanks! I'm going to look-up EE. We don't have vomiting, but the spitting up only started with the introduction of solids. Did they make any suggestions as to food or routine? Wondering if I can try tweaking those things until we see the Dr and start meds.

I missed this, we were diagnosed with AR very early, however when we introduced solids it became projectile instead of just spit up. We went through several tests, 2 Upper GIs, scope, and a flex sig.

At 7 months it was discovered she still has a bad case of AR, at 8 months it was discovered that she has EE (eosinophilic esophagitis) which is triggered by certain food and allergies. Her vomitting was actually from EE not the AR. We have her on a couple different medicines to see if it helps. This was diagnosed by a pediatric GI. If you have any questions let me know, I'm a researching fool when it comes to FRIES, EE, and other allergy/vomiting issues/diseases.

@Mrs. Tricycle: Mine isn't as old as yours but my Anna was just diagnosed this week with reflux and she's almost 4 months.
She isn't having a hard time gaining weight, she actually gained 3lbs in a month lol but she was having random hysterical screaming fits shortly after meals sometimes, constant hiccups, a cough that wasn't illness related, arching of the back while eating her bottle, and lately an increase in spit up.
She was put on Zantac (I did a thread on it) and after just two days she has shown improvement.

I have had the same guilt that I missed all the signs because she wasn't vomiting or not gaining weight so she's been suffering for months. It's hard not to feel that way.
But, you are doing all you can now and that's what matters.

@Mrs. Tricycle: yes, she said the constant vomiting/spit-up made solids stressful. she was still traumatized when she had her second LO and didn't start him on purees until he was almost a year old! he had purees for 2 weeks then transitioned to solids.

hope you are able to get some good information from the gastroenterologist, and that they'll be able to do something for trikester (zantac, fixing any ties, etc.) that help him feel better!

@Mrs. Tricycle: yikes sorry to hear that trikester! One of my nieces was diagnosed young but still suffers at age 8. They constantly told my sister it'd get better as she matured and it never did. I'm sure that's not helpful but I hope you can get some relief soon! If its any consolation we still get colored spit up from solids too.

@edelweiss: Solids are pretty miserable. Almost everything he eats gets spit back up later in the day. I've started carrying a towel in the diaper bag so I can wipe squash and prune puddles off the floor when we're out in public. :)

i'm sorry to hear that--poor little guy! i don't have much to share, but a friend's LO's reflux lasted until about 10 or 11 months. not sure if you will have similar issues, but solids were really hard for them and looking back she said she would have chucked all the advice and waited to start on solids after the reflux symptoms had calmed down.

Mine had acid reflux, vomited a lot--way past sitting up, and it was caused by a posterior tongue tie and lip tie--have you had your LO checked for tongue tie? My DD's fussiness/ colic and trouble gaining (that only started around 5 months) were all part of it, and the reflux (and all associated issues) resolved entirely once her ties were revised. I've posted at greater length on a few threads here on HelloBee if you're curious about more info. I always urge parents of kiddos with acid reflux to just get checked for ties because they're super common, and really quite easy to treat, and SO worth treating if they have them. Be careful to have someone who knows what they're looking for check though--we had 3 peds. tell us she was fine and just had reflux, and proceeded to up her dose of Zantac every time, until we found someone who specialized in diagnosing all ties, not just the super obvious front of the tongue ties, to diagnose our daughter's. Best of luck to you and your LO no matter the cause--I hope you get some answers and some helpful treatment. xoxo.

So we had an 8 month check-up today and the baby hasn't gained any weight in the last 2 months. This coincides with a huge increase in spitting up. Around the time the spitting up started he also began sitting-up and we introduced solids.

The pediatrician thinks the weight problems and spitting up are an acid reflux issue. We were referred to a pediatric gastroenterologist, but it will be a month before that appointment.

Do babies just develop reflux later in life? I thought it was present really early and then supposed to improve with age.

My mama thoughts are concered this means he's had reflux since birth and has suffered forever. He's always been on the fussier side, but pediatricians have never mentioned it when we described whatever issues we were dealing with. Ahhhh!

Anyone else had an older baby diagnosed with acid reflux?
