My favorite acne med is sodium sulfacetamide, which you can get as a clear lotion that works well under makeup or at night before bed...I would think that if RetinA is considered safe for you, that would be as well, but I'm no doctor. It's not as strong as RetinA/Differin, which I like because it doesn't dry out my skin and works really well preventatively as well as to clear up problems.

Is it possible to take an antibiotic for a month or 2 to clear up your acne initially? Once again, I don't know how that works w/breastfeeding but it's a quick way to clear up big problems.

Other things that help me: drinking a TON of water (like...12 glasses a day, not 8) and drinking green tea. Making sure to never let anything touch my face (phone, DH, my palm, spaghetti, etc)

For during pregnancy, my OB only approved azelaic acid and clindamycin. I haven't tried either b/c I've been too lazy to make a dermatologist appt, but if you try and like those it would be great because you could use them during future pregnancies as well.

Pre-pregnancy I used Differin at night and Clindamycin (both the pledgets and the gel) in the morning, and my skin has never looked better. Just used a gently cleanser like Purpose. Differin isn't pregnancy safe so I had to stop using it for the time being and I am counting the days until I can start again. I have awful cystic acne since age 13, so facials were totally useless, as was 99.99% of anything I have used over the counter.

@Beyond2: I just started using belli pregnancy acne cleansing gel. It's safe for pregnancy and BF and its made a big difference. I would recommend it over the meds ( most of which I've tried :-( )

Have you thought about getting a facial? I recently found out I have cluster acne that is brought on by mold in the air and my aesthetician recommended I use coconut oil to treat it. She said all the other harsh products I had tried weren't working because they are only targeted to certain kinds of acne. That's my main experience with it.

I had horrible acne all throughout pregnancy which I refused to do anything but use natural remedies for. I have had my little one and am now breastfeeding. I still have horrible acne on my face, chest and back and I am looking to start treating it in a way that is safe while breastfeeding. My midwife told me the following medicines are considered safe. Does anyone have any experience with any of these? How did they work?

My options are- Adapalene (Differin), Azelaic acid (Azelex), Clindamycin (Cleocin), Erythromycin, Metronidazole (MetroGel) or Tretinoin (Retin-A, Topical)
