@KayKay: Excellent point! Totally overthinking something that is really inconsequential. Helps to have things put in perspective

@skipra: you can tell that I'm of the camp "good parents are good parents no matter what sort of school/activities -- or not -- that they enroll their kids in". So I generally assume that in a situation like this, neither choice will be particularly beneficial or detrimental to your child in the long run and you should do whatever makes your life easier/happier!

Thanks everyone for voting! It's nice to see that it was almost unanimous and in the direction I was leaning anyway! We signed LO1 up for 3 days before deciding to also enroll LO2. DH is also on board with dropping the extra day of school so that helps!

@fancyfunction: @caterw: I 100% agree that kids have enough time for school when they are older. We originally enrolled him for 3 days because he asked to go another day but he will get over it! Plus it will be nice to be able to take longer weekends if we want to go away somewhere.

@gingerbebe: Yes! Gymnastics totally wears them out more than school. One hour of non-stop running and jumping and whatever seems much more exhausting. And was a huge help getting the energy out this past winter.

@KayKay: Haha good point! I asked because it doesn't really make a difference to me. I would have to do the class with LO2 so I won't get a break either way. We are expecting LO3 in the fall so actually it will probably be nice to have the time alone with LO2.

I would pick based on what you need! If it would help you more to have an extra day with LO1 gone longer/at school, do that. If it would help you more to have 30 min to yourself or whatever while both are flipping around at gymnastics, do that!

I'm Team "Wear Those Kids Out" so I vote gymnastics for both. Then just plan one learning activity to add to your days at home - those things never take more than 45 minutes to an hour anyway and there are tons of resources online for fun, seasonal, or theme-based learning activities.

I would definitely put both kids in gymnastics. My daughter has been taking it for a year and LOVES it, plus it's a fun thing for your kids to do together. Plus like a PP said- your kids will have plenty of time to be in school!! You could always do a little homeschooling activity if you are worried about falling behind.

I'd choose gymnastics. M will be doing 3 days of school next year and there's an optional 4th day. We won't be doing that b/c I want her to have time for dance class plus a free day each week. In the 4's program she'll have school everyday so why rush it?

If you had to choose between a third day of preschool or a gymnastics class for your 4 year old, which would you pick?

Some factors to consider:
1. Preschool does not have an outdoor playground, just an indoor playroom that they typically spend about 20 minutes in.
2. LO has the opportunity to attend a playgroup at his school every other week on the optional day.
3. LO2 could also do gymnastics but we can't afford it if LO1 does the extra day of school.
4. LO just misses the school cut-off so he has 2 years before starting K and will attend for a minimum of 3 days his last year.
