It still sticks out a bit, as it is probably 4 times as wide as the post totle, but the extra color makes it way less jarring. I can only speak to my experience, but I find ads most effective when they are slightly more subtle. For example, IG promoted stories and FB promoted stories look more similar to their other posts than they do a lone ad. I think it makes the site much less visually appealing, and they are super distracting to me.</p> <p>You mentioned modeling NYT with regards to ad placement. I was thinking, though, that a big difference is the size of the ads in relation to the size of the stories. The NYT stories are wider than the title of the posts on the main boards page of HB, so the ads don't stick out so much. If there were a way to make the ads here more wide and skinny, I think I would find them less obtrusive.</p> <p>Example of what I mean is attached. We just moved it back to 30 threads today, which I think will help with that.
