We've always done it with my little LO. I would even just put coconut oil on toast...I do lots of butter and other oils too. You can also add rice or oatmeal cereal or flax seed to foods, that is much easier for purées. I add whole milk powder to his milk to add cals and that could be added to anything too.

@Applesandbananas: Thanks! I try to give her avocado whenever I can and she loves it, which is good. I also try to eat a bunch of them myself, so hopefully my milk will be fattier.

@gingerbebe: @Jess1483: @Mrs. Jacks: We are currently testing milk and soy out on me (she's MSPI) and so far she is handling it well! Our next venture is to try yogurt and cheese on her, so I'm hoping she will tolerate it, so I can start adding butter and heavy cream and full fat yogurt to her food! I'm glad to hear that it helps though.

I do wonder if because I haven't been able to have any of the dairy I normally would, that it affected her growth? It didn't dawn on me until she was about 4.5-5 months old that I should be eating other fatty foods to replace the fat in the dairy I used to have.

We call it power packing in my line of work and it can be very effective. Butter on things, heavy cream in place of milk and healthy fats on everything else. Good luck.

We did it with coconut oil and with olive oil. It helped a bit, but it also just took a lot of patience to get him growing.

My nurse said for kids like this, feed them whatever they'll eat and put butter on top. I followed that advice within reason.

My little guy was off the charts for weight and height (I think he's likely on the charts now, but at, like, 3%)

My cousin did this cuz all three of her kids were underweight. She adds lard, ghee, butter, and coconut oil to just about everything her kids eat and they are doing a lot better.

We gave LO avocado frequently to help with weight and iron since we skipped the rice cereal. I've heard of people using coconut oil and olive oil. Mrs. Green Grass has posted about this a few times, maybe she'll chime in!

My DD is barely on the charts with weight and height (her head is 65%, bless her heart) and I asked my pedi if I could add coconut oil to her solids to help add some good fat and calories. (My pedi said it was fine) She currently only gets 1 meal a day and is breastfed. Has anyone done this or something similar? Did it help your LO fatten up?
