This happened to me. They went by my LMP and at my first doctors appointment I told them I thought it was off and told him what I thought my O date was. He scheduled me for a dating ultrasound for 3 weeks later. I measured 6w6d just like I thought, but going by my last LMP I should've been 8 weeks. My EDD was changed from Oct 15 to the 25th.

I told him when I thought I conceived based on my charting. He asked when was my LMP and also what my cycle length was. He was comfortable with not setting a specific due date until the ultrasound for dating. He'd refer to the gestation age as a range....like he'd say, "So you're 13-14 weeks along".

The ultrasound dated me 10 days earlier than my charting.

And then baby was born 14 days before that!!!! So in the end, he was born way closer to the EDD based on LMP rather than my charting. I still don't understand how this happened: I thought I was SUCH a good charter. Plus, I took a pregnancy test a week before, negative. I even took a pregnancy test at what I thought was 14 days past O, negative, and it was positive 2 days later.

Whatev.

I say go with the ultrasound's dating.

@birdofafeather: good luck at your appt! Even seeing just a small blob on the ultrasound was really fun. Its like a really real confirmation that something is going on in there!

I told my doctor that I'd been charting and didn't O until CD28 and that I was 100% positive about it but he still made my due date based off of my LMP. Each of the U/S followed along with my dates though so he eventually changed it to reflect what the ultrasounds were saying :)

@birdofafeather: They didn't even LOOK at my chart. They just said, based on LMP we "need" you in at this date.
And then they got all scared when he was measuring "small" (like a couple weeks small!).
So they did another u/s at my "real" 10 w appt (11w actually) and he was growing right on track with what I charted. They still don't care about my chart, and just say my EDD is based on u/s. Doesn't really matter.

Yes, this happened with me too. I ovulated on day 31 but went in for an appointment at 5 weeks. They just did blood work and a transvaginal ultrasound and i saw the little blob. My doc thought i was 7 weeks and i told her i was temping and the day i o'ed and she fixed my due date. Some doctors dont mind seeing you early but some do, so just ask if they want you to wait until you are further along...oh re-reading i see that they want you to wait until 8 weeks. I would just reschedule then.

At my first visit (about 4.5w based on LMP) they just drew blood to verify levels. I had first ultrasound at 6w LMP and was measuring correctly. The ultrasound tech said that docs often use the early ultrasound to adjust EDD because LMP is not completely accurate for some women.

@pastemoo: I have a feeling this will happen for me too, but I'm going to go in to get things started and hopefully they will believe me! My chart is pretty clear and I even have two previous negative tests so if I were really 8 weeks, I would think those should have been positive!

@mrsjyw: Sounds like the same timing for me. Did they do much at that first appt for you at 5 weeks?

I told them my LMP matched exactly 2 weeks before my date of conception - which was not true but I didn't feel like explaining everything to the receptionist who wasn't listening to me the first time I tried to tell her. Turns out I was wrong anyways, they dated off the ultrasound and apparently I have a big baby because they moved the date ahead 9 days!

Congratulations!!

My first appt was at 5 wks with the Nurse Pract and when she tried to calculate my EDD based on LMP, I told her that I had longer than average cycles and gave her my O day. She wrote it down and at my next appt with the Dr, they did a transvag u/s and verified that my calculations of O day were correct.

From the beginning, I fudged my LMP based on the due date I got from Fertility Friend. It's really much easier than trying to prove something, but it may be too late for you!

I was with an infertility doctor so I was charting and getting HCG draws every other day. The gave me a due date based on my chart and the sono that I had at 5 and 6 weeks. When I graduated and went to my OB they gave me a due date based on my LMP. I went into labor on my charting due date (12/12 and baby Stroller arrived on my LMP due date 12/14)! I think they'll probably adjust for your O date or order an early sono to date the baby.

Congratulations!

1. Congrats.
2. Yes, They wouldn't listen to me, and brought me in, and then they freaked because on the ultrasound he was measuring 7+w not almost 10 weeks. Their EDD based on ultrasound was one day after my EDD based on charting.
They still freaked that he was growing too slowly, even when I SHOWED them my chart. Yeah... trust your chart, but go to your doc when they want you to.

My situation is much less extreme... but my Dr's have my EDD as May 8, while I've stuck with May 12 because of my cycle length. An early ultrasound dated my pregnancy with an EDD of May 9, so they decided to stick with the May 8 date.

Basically, they told me they do the early dating ultrasound and if there's a major variance they'll amend the due date to correspond with the u/s measurements. Mine was just a few days off, so they didn't make a change. I'd imagine in your situation when and if they give you an early ultrasound, they'll update the EDD which I'm sure would better align with your charts. If there's no u/s, I'm sure based on your charts they would include this info in your file/make a change.

I'm 33 weeks and have been measuring consistently with my O date from the start however my Dr refuses to change my due date and will only go by the EDD based on my LMP. It's only a week difference (I've always O'd early which was confirmed with charting) but still kinda bugs me.

have any pregnant/momma bees had experience with the first OB appt and getting EDD based on LMP instead of O date?

i have been charting for about 9 months and O'd on CD42. this means i'm only about 4 weeks, but when i called to make my first appt. with my OB, the scheduler/nurse said to come in based on LMP, saying that i was 8 weeks instead and booked an appt for me (they start care at 8 weeks).

i will definitely bring my charts to show them, but i was just hoping someone else had experience with this (even to a less extreme level) and could share! thanks!
