I wish I had adoption benefits. We didn't have access to either infertility or adoption benefits. I'm sorry you're finding yourself in a difficult situation, but if you set your mind to it you can work something out.

@HolisticMama: Wow, that would really sting getting the benefits taken away right after finding out something like that. Mine never offered any toward IVF (which I need) and nothing for adoption either so I am on my own in the kiddo department. Pretty crappy!

@HolisticMama: that really sucks! I'm so sorry. I don't know why there can't be an option to add that coverage for a nominal fee because I would definitely pay a little more to have some help with the infertility treatments.

@bluestriped bee: I'm in one of the states that "requires" it but the law is so vague that many insurance companies don't cover it. Sucks.

Yeah, it sucks. My work just upped the benefits for adoption. Something like $5K. We still want to adopt but we want to try IVF first. Actually I'm hoping IVF will work and we won't have to pay for IVF and adoption. Makes my pocket book hurt thinking about it.

It sucks that only 5 (or 7?) states require IF benefits. Unfortunately, I don't live in a state that does. I'm not going to bust on my medical insurance because I think it's pretty good but it doesn't cover IUI or IVF. I got tests covered to diagnose IF.

Definitely needs more Infertility awareness out there!

@HolisticMama: If the company offers the 10K for adoption, you may want to ask about using it for infertility treatment. That is my plan if we ever end up in that situation (right now our employer pays for nothing and more nothing).

@HolisticMama: That really stinks, I am so sorry to hear that. It is horrifying how expensive infertility treatments are and not having that extra help really makes it worse. I am glad you were able to take a mental health day and that you are looking into speaking with a therapist. I hope that you are able to find a solution that works for your family.

AWFUL timing. I took the next day off and just really nourished myself. I got a massage, a chiropractic adjustment, acupuncture, took a nap and a bubble bath.

They even took away coverage for things like clomid. It was probably just so expensive for them. And I bet barely anyone uses their adoption benefits.

I was also surprised that they took away our Employee Assistance Program (EAP)- so I couldn't even talk to a counselor about my feelings. LOL. Double whammy.

However, I'm a student and get a similar assistance program there. So I am going to see a therapist on Thursday to see if I could work through some of my worry.

Thanks, @LovelyPlum: @LovelyPlum:

I was just poking around my benefits at work and just wanted to be bummed somewhere that people could relate. :(

My company took away infertility benefits for 2014. I found out 48 hours after our reproductive endocrinologist informed us that we probably only have a 1% chance of conceiving.

Yet my company is still offering $10,000 in adoption benefits. I think that adoption is really wonderful. I do. And maybe someday I will adopt, even we are able to conceive a child of our own. But I'm just feeling bummed that my company and insurance companies are really more interested in the dollar than the individual holding the insurance card.

I want that $10K for an opportunity to conceive my own biological child. :(

I will now be wrapping up my cake to go from this pity party.
Thanks for letting me vent my disappointment.
