@Anagram: I'm so sorry I missed this. We got our foster child at 9 months. I'm so late with this though and know how quickly things change that I'm sure they're already way adjusted from the first days. I hope they're all doing well, and if anyone wants to talk I'm always available.

@Mrs. Jacks: yup, but you wouldn't know by looking at her--they all have the same coloring. But the little girl is a mix of middle eastern and they don't know about the dad. They got some information about the mom, but it's a totally closed adoption and they nothing about the dad. They've never talked to the mom, but the birth mom choose them from packets because she thought her daughter looked like them. Other than ethnic background and a tiny bit if medical history, all they know is that mom signed away her parental rights right after birth and the baby went to foster care.

@Anagram: so hard for South Asian families to stay away! But that baby is going to be so surrounded by love and affection from that big family! It will be great in the long run.

Is the baby a trans-racial adoptee?

@Mrs. Jacks: I think they are kind of doing that. Their baby has been with them a month now and they were advised not let let too any friends/relatives visit the first two months since all the new ppl are confusing to the baby and they are supposed to work on the attachment between just the three of them. So only the grandparents on each side have been able to visit. I think it's great and amazing they heeded that advice because all their extended families live in the area and they would have literally had 100 visitors by now, which is totally normal in south Asian culture.

I had newborns so I don't know exactly how helpful my writing is... But I will say that early attachment parenting is probably very important-- baby wearing, co-sleeping, anything to cement the bond between parent and child.

Hi All!

Our cousin just announced that she and her husband were just notified that an 8 month old baby will be placed with them in 5 days (!). They are adopting through the Canadian foster care system.

She mentioned wanting to read some adoption blogs--what are some good ones that deal with first days home, domestic adoptions, etc?

They are spending the next 5 days gathering supplies and baby items--this is their first child.

Any recommendations for blogs that deal with this age, the first days home, the adjustment period, etc?
