For me it was a far more special day than I realized. The court appearance is pretty easy and the people who work in family court love finalization day because it is a happy occasion. We went in with both of our parents and our three boys. Our attorney and representatives from our agency were there as well. They asked us a few questions and then let us take pictures with the judge. They also gave each boy a little teddy bear. We went home and got fancy take out and dessert. </p> <p>Congrats on your adoption!! Finalization is so fantastic. Although it can be a weird feeling. I don't know if all adoptive mamas feel this way but I know I did. We finally got this paper that said he was ours, that changed his name officially, that allowed me to be his mom...but I was all along. I loved him from the moment I heard about him. I loved him when the put him in my arms when he was a day old. I loved him that entire year we waited for finalization. So we got this paper that meant SO much. We were officially his parents, at the same time it meant nothing because I had been his mom all along. It was a weird feeling but it was great! Everyone was super happy and the judge mentioned that it is always the best part of the week! The judge will ask some very basic questions; if there were any issues, you should already know about it ahead of time, i.e. it would be contested, etc. If it's just a strict finalization with no issues looming on the side, you shouldn't need to worry a bit! I'm anxious for it to get here so that our son will legally be ours, but also unsure of what to expect! We talked to our social worker today about it and said that it's a fun day and that the judge will just ask us some simple questions. I think we'll invite both sets of parents and maybe have a little celebration lunch at our house afterwards with cake.</p> <p>Adoptive mamas.. I would love to hear about your finalization... what was your experience like? Is there anything to be nervous about? Did you invite family to attend? Did you do any kind of celebration? </p>
