I bought several used and started collecting while I was pregnant. Instead of wrapping they have a sticker with the date. I will cycle out the board books when she's older. It has a bunch of little felt things like bows, trees, santa, stars, etc that you put on each day until Christmas. We had one growing up and it's such a minor thing but it is something I remember doing EVERY morning so we're going to do it again with our lo this year. I was thinking of using it this year...it is 25 hand knitted hats, mittens and stockings made by my MIL. The thing is what to fill it with that isn't expensive or junky. My mom always did chocolate advent calendars where you'd open the door each day and there would be a tiny chocolate, but I'd like to do something a little different. I'm thinking of doing a mix of books/activites/"stuff". For activites I'm thinking we could do a family movie night, ice cream sundae night, drive around and look at Christmas decorations, things that are easy and cheap.
