I’m so sorry. It’s a terrible position to be in. I had 2 MC. The first time my OB strongly recommended the D&C and all went well. The second time I was with a different practice and they recommended the misoprostol... Despite taking both dosages, it didn’t go well. I had retained tissue and it ended up being a long, month-long, drawn out process that ended with a D&C. I wish I had just done the surgery and cut out all the drama (it’s hard enough already).

I know the drug works well for most, but I’ve had other friends that had similar situations to mine.

Regardless, if you go forward with the misoprostol, the bleeding gets intense and it’s emotional. Definitely time it so you have someone to take care of your older kid. Good luck and sorry you have to go through this.

@Mrs. Champagne: this is legitimately one of the most helpful Hellobee threads.

@MLE81: I'm so sorry for your loss, but I'm glad the miso worked well and that the experience was pain free for you. And good job taking the pain meds.

Thank you for all the advice. It helped to read your personal experiences, too, as there are some horrific accounts out there.
I took the first dose yesterday morning around 7:30 and nothing happened by noon, so then I took the second dose as instructed by my doctor. Started bleeding around 2:30 pm, and then the heaviest bleeding, including some large clots, came between 6-8 pm. Bleeding tapered off by 10 pm and has been pretty much just like my usual periods overnight. I feel very lucky to have experienced virtually no pain (did use the painkillers as described, but hard to tell if I even needed to).
I don’t think I’ve fully processed this whole experience yet, although it is my second loss. We shall see what the coming days hold. But thank you all, again.

I would do morning. I’ve taken it for two miscarriages. When I took it at night I was up all night waiting.

Take some time for yourself and watch tv in bed and take it. That’s what I did. I’m so sorry for your loss I’ll find my old post about my experience for you.

@MLE81: I'm so sorry ❤. I've taken misoprotol for 2 miscarriages with 2 very different experiences. I would take it tonight and tell your DH to be prepared for you to just be hanging out tomorrow in bed or on the couch. My DH turned it into an afternoon of snuggles with mommy in bed with lots of TV time for everyone after running our son around that morning. Like @Silva said, having that time to retreat was important to me.

Also, take the painkillers they prescribe. I didn't the first time and did the 2nd and recommend taking them unless you need to drive or operate something.

So sorry about the miscarriage. It took almost 8 hours for mine to start working if I recall correctly. I took it in the morning, had some mild cramping in early afternoon, passed everything around dinner tome.
I sat in bed, took the opiate they gave me, and watched tv all day. My husband took my daughter to the playground, hung out outside, etc. he just told her I was sick and needed to rest.
I can’t say what your experience with it will be like, and you know yourself best, but just being able to rest and veg out and take the time off from life felt best to me.

Sorry you are going through this. This happened to me this summer, I was 9 weeks when I finally started bleeding. I say just take it now. I had to do two doses, and thought I’d be more out of commission than I was. The first dose caused some cramping, but not for long, and I didn’t really start bleeding g until a few days later after I took the second dose. You could have a similar circumstance, so no need to put it off.

I know that all experiences are different/personal, but wondering if anyone can offer some advice.

I found out this morning that my pregnancy is not viable (blighted ovum). I am about 8 weeks. I have the option to schedule a D&C next week, but also filled a prescription for misoprostol (Cytotec) that I am leaning towards using this weekend. My original “plan” was to take the first dose tomorrow morning, but now I’m wondering if I should do it tonight instead.

My husband will be home all weekend to look after our DD, so I can rest as needed, but part of me is worried she may be upset if mommy is “out of commission” tomorrow while she is awake, so wondering if I should try to force the process to at least start overnight while she is asleep. I think it will be emotionally even more difficult for me if my DD is upset, too. She has a “knack” for always wanting the parent who is least available at any particular moment ;)

I have no idea what to expect, physically, so not sure if it’s something I want to go through alone overnight, either. Of course, hubby will support as needed, but also don’t want him to be exhausted tomorrow when DD needs at least one functional parent.

Any advice?
