@Mae: we didn't experience this, but we sleep trained around three months, which I think helped avoid it. Our LO also hated the swaddle, so we did away with it on the early side.

@Mae: 5 months. We did the Sleep Easy Soution. I know CIO isn't for everyone, but it worked great for us.

Alice is sleep regressing really bad right now. Sleeping in 20 minute increments from 9-3 the last few nights. Not wanting to eat, take paci, etc. Ped suggested encouraging her to self soothe with her thumb, so we are going to try swaddling with arms out tonight. When she did finally fall asleep and sleep for three hours we noticed she had busted her arms out of the swaddle. So maybe she is swaddle weaning herself? Hope something works for Fia soon. This not sleeping is ROUGH after weeks of good sleep!

@Mae: Ours didn't end so after a month of being woken up every 1-2 hours we decided to sleep train. Its sounds like your LO needs to learn how to fall asleep on her own without needing your help or the paci to soothe her back to sleep. During the worst of our regression DH and I would take shifts dealing with LO so that each of us could at least sleep 3-4 hours. If you are okay with CIO then let me know and I'd be happy to tell you more about which program we used.

@Mae: You could try one arm out. That would give her access to her hand but the comfort of the swaddle. We are using the Magic Merlin suit. He HATED it at first, so much that I started a thread on it. But after he scared me by almost rolling in his sleep I tried it a few more times. I wouldn't say he likes it now, but he can get his little fist in his mouth and it does calm his reflexes as night.

@Little Misters Mom: She is because it is such a huge sleep cue for her and she startles so easily. But I was just thinking today that her sleep is so terrible that maybe it is time to ditch the swaddle? Like I don't know how much worse it could really get so maybe I just might as well go through both transitions at once? But then I'm scared........ lol

I'm the last person who should give sleep advice, but is she still swaddled? If she could suck on her thumb or hand when she woke up that might help with the paci wake ups. That said, everything I've read about the 4 month regression -- and all I do these days is obsessively read about baby sleep -- says it'll pass and there isn't much to do but survive. Hang in there!

Mine never ended. Sorry. I'd say, do as you want to go on - don't start bad habits just because you're desperate for a little more sleep. But know that it's always changing.

We just had to ride it out, and it was awful. We started a bit late because she was really sick, but when it started, it lasted a solid two months for us, and then it slowly got better.

So I'm pretty sure Fia is in the 4 mo regression, even though she's not yet 4 mo. She's 16 weeks now. From 8-11 weeks on she slept 9-7 or 8 with 1 wakeup to eat. During week 12 she STTN. Week 13 she started waking up 1 time again. Weeks 14-15 she started waking up and needing to be rocked back to sleep 2-4 times (did not want to eat, or maybe only once).

Now this past week she is awake ALL THE TIME. She does this thing where she spits her binky out and then starts grunting/whining/lip smacking for it. And if you don't wake up and get it in fast enough she wakes all the way up and screams and you have to rock her. If you do get it in, she may go back to sleep, or she may spit it out 10 min later and you have to repeat the process.

Last night we put her to bed at 9:40 (started bed time at 8:30 and dealt with 2 massive meltdowns). She slept until 11 and then started the paci spit out thing. Spit/replaced it until 11:30 and she slept. Started the paci thing at 12:30, continued every few minutes until 2. Started the paci thing at 3, I replaced it 2 or 3 times then decided to try to let her fall back asleep without it and she woke up and freaked out and I had to get up and rock her. She fell asleep about 3:45. Back up at 5 with the paci thing on and on and on, decided to try to feed her at 6. Ate 1.5 oz and fell asleep at 6:15. Back up at 7 for the day.

Also her naps are difficult. She used to put herself to sleep. Now she always needs rocked. She usually melts down during rocking. She usually wakes up after 30-40 min crying for her paci and/or needing to be rocked back to sleep.

So... this is the 4 mo regression right? But how long will it last? Feels like this has been going on a long time now and keeps getting worse. And she isn't even 4 mo officially until next week!

And I don't know what to do about the paci situation. Do I just keep sitting up all night to pop her paci back in all the time? Is there anything I can do to get her back to sleeping okay without it? (she used to go to sleep with it, spit it out, and be fine with it the rest of the night). Do I just ride this out however I can (paci replacement, tons of rocking)? Or am I creating bad habits?

I know its a lot of questions and every baby is different. But I'd appreciate any advice on how to ride the storm without setting up long term bad habits and also without losing my damn mind (emphasis more on the former than the latter... I am still feeling like I can ride this out bc it is hopefully short term... at least for now.)
